Ban all "free to good home" advertisments. including in school newsletters and the like.
Doubling or tripling tax on pet store and breeding facilities sales might make people think twice. Only allow sales from registered breeders. charge a fee for pet licences
People must take responsibility for pets. Nothing like havong to ante up to make people think twice.

@dyslexia,
Such a lovely premise to start with. I haven't read the text of your premise and it is possible I'd agree with it. I hope you **** yourself up in a tomato patch. Your anti California stuff is so... junior high.

I also hope they are good tomatoes, but that is irrelevant.

@dyslexia,
Whatever!

Bottom line, California is a trend setter and other states will soon follow suit.
When CA first banned smoking, everyone was up in arms - now it's customary
in just about every state. Banning pet shops isn't a bad idea at all. There are
legitimate breeders out there for the ones who need a pedigree, everyone else
has a local animal shelter to choose a dog from.

Where is the idiocy, if I may ask?

@CalamityJane,
Bob and I yell at each other.

I suppose he is more careful.

We love each other while we snarl.

If there is any question, he is dear to me, and with any luck, I am dear to him.

As dumb as this rule is, when bagging on CA and the SF government, recall that they didn't pass this law. It's no dumber than the dozens of laws which get proposed in each city, State and our Federal government every single year.

I would also say that this plan, while perhaps not smart, doesn't approach the level of 'total idiocy.'

@Cycloptichorn,
absolutely true cyclo, it is no dumber so should I ignore it? I ran across it on a news article "dumb laws" and it stuck. I am really seriously against dumb laws wherever they occur (even New Mexico) but I post what is brought to my attention. But yes it does approach 'total idiocy" because it does nothing to resolve the presenting problem. that is 'total idiocy' from my point of view.

@dyslexia,
Pin point it, please.

I likely read it and rolled my eyes.

Procede.

What if a "legitimate breeder" opens a pet shop?

You are setting a higher standard there than the SF Board of Supervisors has ever attained.

I would agree that it isn't "total idiocy" ... after all they probably got the spelling right. However it is not at all untypical of useless, unenforceable and, frankly stupid measured the SF Board considers on a regular basis.

Pet shop is pet shop, regardless who opens it. I'd ban them all!
