Kids today also say "that's sweet", meaning that's awesome.

The word 'gay'... people over here use 'that's gay' to mean something which is completely awful. Some people don't say 'that's gay;' they say 'that's porno;' I don't know where that came from.

As for bling-bling, that came from Ali G taking the mickey out of white people who act as if they were black. Suddenly, it's all over the place; people have lost what Baron (the person behind Ali G) was trying to say.

I like 'far out.' I still use that occasionally, but people think I mean 'stoned.' I still use 'have a ball' as have a good time. I never knew that there were sexual connotations to the word... and I don't know why, but my friends and I never referred to making out as thus, we always said 'faire l'amour', even before we started learning French.

People say 'dinero' now, probably because of the huge number of immigrants...

What the hell is 'my bad' anyhow? It sounds like cavemanspeak.

This whole thing started for me when my mom gave me her Reader's Digest, that she had finished. They have a section caled, "Word Power".
They give you a word, and four definitions. You have to choose the right one.

This month the Word Power were words that are used by youngsters.
These are the words:

down

hooptie

tight

whatevs

jet

wack

chill

bling-bling

my bad

crib

player

yo

dis

peace out

homey

phat

I knew seven!

Youngsters? most of those terms are in pretty heavy rotation in our office by people in their 30's and 40's. Reader's Digest must be writing for 80 year olds.

There's really nothing sadder than a bleach-blonde skinny-ass white girl in her 30's running around saying "my bad", "wasshup girlfriend" and "that is so whack". Brrr...gives me the chills.

'Prively he caughte hire by the queynte,
And seyde, 'Ywis, but if ich have my wille
For deerne love of thee, lemman, I spille.;
And helde hire harde by the haunchebones'

Now that's my kind of language; totally in the zone Laughing

Laughing Thank you for that website, serving as a perfect microcosm of some people's attitudes.

'Johnny calls me "da man!" That puts me at ease. It makes me feel comfortable, because I am Black and that's how Black folks talk to one another.'

Hahahahaha, I think someone's going towards the 'be our friend' button. What made me laugh most was that people wrote in, 'appalled', not understanding why the people set up the site in the first place.

My favorite photo is the one where they are playing hangman, and the word is "r_cism" with the caption "Whoops! Johnny's totally stumped!"

When I ask the kids if they're going to "hook up" with so and so, their eyeballs pop out. To "hook up" now means "have sex". !!

Talking of expressions, that's the first time I've ever heard 'date' being used in this context.

'Out she comes as white as snow, rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
Ould Johnny Murray says she'll die, if she doesn't get the fellah with the rovin' eye'
Ah, I remember this; the Belle of Belfast City. Only my gran used to sing 'Albert Mooney say's he'll die'

Laughing That's a great website; I'll have to bookmark it, and indeed acquaint myself with such wonderful people lmao.
