To answer a question asked in this thread about a national health service - NO!
If half of the things said against such as Canada's and England's health service are true, who in his right mind would want it?
If the concern is that many have little or no health coverage, then there are better ways to help them. Our poor and illegals get better health care than many in countries with national health care.
Not to mention the tax money required to pay for it (we already pay enough).

the UK national health service might not be good,but at least we have a national health service,the USA is the richest country in the world and for millions your screwed if you dont have health insurance :thumbdown: i think millions of americans would love the uk national health service,even with its problems

@mousy,
Why would they be screwed? Is one's life not worth what ever amount had to be paid regardless of whether healthcare is provided?

@mousy,
I second the old tool collector on our brand of socialist health care for the poor and the immigrants. I had a fairly simple but emergency surgery a few years ago but because I was employed it cost my insurance company and me $48,000. If I were poor, illegal or incarcerated, it would have been free.

@mousy,
Heart attack four months ago good enough for you, or what about a virus that almost killed me five years ago, got hooked on steroids for the treatment. Killed the virus but also killed my health, bed ridden for months. Have had and had not insurance, regardless of having it, my life is worth what ever i have to pay. Nobody owes me health care, if i can afford it i carry it. If not i seek other means.
What do you think it cost me to insure myself? Now picture the government trying to implement such care, what would the cost be do you think? I figure it would be three times what i pay now, some one has to fund the bureaucracy? Are you willing, then start sending in the money. My guess is you won't send in a dime?

@mousy,
By law, no one can be refused service at any hospital, without regard to their ability to pay. It's the law, at least in California.

@mousy,
Yes, the poor and illegals get healthcare. As a matter of fact they sometimes get quicker care than insureds do. And they don't have to work harder or take a second job to pay off the doctor bills.

@mousy,
Everyone accepts as fact that they use the emergency rooms for their primary care simply because they cannot be refused. If they show up there and need an emergency appendectomy, believe me, they'll get it.

@mousy,
The welfare state is a failure by design, because those who finance it -- that is, those with a strong work-ethic -- eventually become unmotivated by the lack of any incentive to keep working hard. Once that happens, the entire society in question begins to quickly fall apart. The majority population must be productive for society to be a success, overall. Material incentive is the only way to keep workers motivated. Man is not motivated by moral incentives, as much as we might want to believe he is, as spiritually inclined people. Market economics are the only ones that work. They conform best to human nature.
