Both recent elections, both highly contested. The EU has price norming, a socialist tradition. All Western European nations have socialized health care, and substantial welfare states. Your "right" is our center.

We know you don't have a Constitution, and your parliament exists only by royal decree. Ergo, your parliament can pass any laws it pleases, without restraint. Lovely system. No firearms (except 3-shell shotguns and sporting rifles, which the government has tabs on at all times), no constitutional restrictions on government, and a monarchy! AWESOME.

the queen/monarchy is only a figurehead, she has no power, parliament cant pass any law it pleases,it has to have the support of the majority of MPs,and not all MPs toe the party line,as for the firearms question, most people in the UK are quite happy with our gun-laws.
ps im a repubublican when it comes to the monarchy !

Western European country's do have National Healths Services and welfare, but they are all capitilist country's,Chancellor merkel and president sarkozy, would never dream about getting rid of the NHS within their country's,and they are not socialists, they are to the "RIGHT" politically.
Most country's are trying to cut back on welfare, but they would never get rid of the NHS within their country's,the people would not tolerate it.
Even the evil right-wing bitch Thatcher would never have tried to get rid of the NHS,even though she would loved to have done so.

PRACTICALLY your monarchy is ceremonial only, but since Parliament exists only through royal decree, the Queen can legally disband it. Further, if a coalition government were to take charge (say, Labour and the LD), or say Labour took 355 seats, thus eliminating legitimate opposition (oh, that's happened), they have the power to pass any law they see fit, including suspending elections. You won't particularly care for your strict gun laws when you have no means of defense from tyranny.

Funny, your violent crime rate is less than 1 incident per 100,000 people lower than our's, and we have access to firearms. It would appear that your country is in serious danger of becoming tyrannical. No Constitutional limitations on legislative power, no firearms, a monarchy. You guys are setting yourselves up for a fall.

Socialism incorporates elements of the free market capitalist system with collectivist security blankets similar to those of the communist system. The EU, since its inception as the European Coal and Steel Community in the 1950's has had a socialist lean, since they want everyone taken care of, but given a chance to prosper individually. All EU member states (including Sarkozy's France) are subject to price norming and quality of life standards. I love Europe, especially France, but that doesn't change the fact that your governments are nearly as fucked as our's is.

Just like America isn't TRULY capitalistic. Ideologies blend, but your part of the world is moving towards the absurdity of the economic left.

And Russia nor NK are true communism, no point in trying that route, as Freeman pointed out there's no pure system out there.
