depends on its function

if it's for lane swimming, masters' level classes, races etc. then I'm looking for a swimsuit

if it's for hanging around at a pool or beach, dipping into the lake/pool/ocean occasionally, I think people are going to buy a bathing suit

sunbathing - they call it tanning now - but no one over the age of 12 does it outside

back in the day, we had sunsuits - which were pretty much bikinis

I still hear people talk about other people sunbathing - it doesn't seem anyone admits to doing it themselves - now they call it 'lounging'

There are one or two people sunbathing/tanning on the Meadow everyday in NYC.

Most of them wear most of their bathing suit while doing this activity.

It does take a lot of concentration to walk through this crowd without having your eyes bug out.

some local radio guys used to play a game called what's normal, one of the guys came from new jersey, the other from st. louis and they were working in detroit, they noticed that they called the same items by different names, then they'd ask the callers what they called them, pretty interesting sometimes
