The NYY GM, Cashman, was promised more authority if he stayed on. I recall reading that he didn't want to keep throwing $$$ at the highest-priced guys. We'll see how long he's allowed to run things if the team starts the seasons poorly!

I would think teams might be leery of Manny--he's a bit of a malcontent, no?

more flake than malcontent.
a team desperate for a big bat will put up with him...

marlins wanted cano for pierre -- NYY woulda been insane to make that trade...

Pierre is a wonderful player, with one glaring fault: He cannot throw with any strength. It's a bit of a problem for a center fielder...

I agree. Pierre can't throw at all for a centerfielder. He should be a shortstop or a secondbasemen. At least they don't have to throw as far.

Damon has the arm of a decent high school player, but he's still going to get fat money.

Looks like NYY has signed Damon for four years.

Comments? Good move or not? I haven't seen the financial details...

bad for bahstin.
for an extra 12mill, Benedict Damon turned his back on the team that made him famous...

the sox front office is disarray.
they're lucky they got beckett.
there are only a handful of players left from the '04 team...

the dodgers are starting to look like the Old Sox:
lowe, nomaah, mueller & grady little at the helm...

Looks like a 4 year $52 million deal. Not bad deal for the Yanks. Damon is still a good player and $13 million a year is far from outrageous these days.

It has been a pretty active off-season so far. A lot of teams are going to look pretty different come opening day. I am looking forward to seeing the White Sox again. Added a legitimate DH in Thome, resigned Konerko, added Mackowiak and Vazquez (Buehrle, Garcia, Vazquez, Conteras and Garland is a dominating starting 5), resigned Pierzynski... could be another good season.

Is it to early to get excited, again?

The Chisox have done well, it's true. The Braves, as usual, lost a valuable player to free agency (Furcal) and are likely to need smoke and mirrors to fill the closer hole. Sigh...

But reliable sources have it that the team is for sale. Getting it out from under Time Warner can only help, IMHO.

The Yankees are desperate for that World Series ring. They don't have a weak spot in that starting lineup or the bullpen. If they are weak, it would be their pitching.

NYY is once again the team to beat--as of December. Of course, things tend to work out differently come September...

Does anyone know of a website that keeps a list of players acquired, traded and released by each team?

I want something quick to get updated by the movements.

Jimmy Rice didn't get into the HOF.

I think that's good. I'm more in favor of keeping the Hall very exclusive.

So, who is A-Rod not going to play for in the World Tournament, the Dominican Republic or the USA?
