Does anyone here play fantasy baseball?

I've been in the Yahoo leagues for a few years now. Great waste of time.

I moved away from Sandbox and ESPN and Sportsline (just because you have to pay to play).

If anyone's interested let's hear it...

OoooooooK, so nobody wants to play...

A-Rod to the Bronx, now?

Quote:
Now it's the New York Yankees who are trying to trade for Alex Rodriguez. The American League champions began preliminary discussions with the Texas Rangers this week on a deal that would bring A-Rod to the Bronx for second baseman Alfonso Soriano, a high-ranking baseball official said Saturday.

While the talks began Wednesday night, it's still too early to tell whether they will lead to a deal, the official said, speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. Rodriguez has a no-trade clause but has said he would be amenable to a deal to the Yankees, the official said.

Rodriguez, the AL MVP, would be moved from shortstop to third base by New York, seeking to fill the hole created when Aaron Boone hurt a knee last month in a pickup basketball game, an injury that will require surgery. Derek Jeter, the Yankees' captain, would remain at shortstop.

I just saw this reported on the on-line NY Times. Makes my blood boil. I have a friend, an inveterate NYY fan, who I expect to see at our local pub tonight. I can just imagine his sh!t-eating grin...

Re fantasy baseball: Afraid I must beg off, PDiddie. I spend many hours each summer watching WTBS; must try to have some balance in what remains of my free time...

A NY Times columnist boldly speculates today that Steinbrenner should try to obtain A-Rod to play third base. Makes perfect sense, except that it makes no sense at all...

The writer acknowledges that the same financial issues that kept the Boston deal from happening would kill any idea of this trade, too.

king george will now have to pay rod...

Jeez, I forgot I posted that bit about a NY Times columnist speculating on the trade that just happened. He must have known something.

I ran into my NYY friend last night at the local pub. As I expected, he was grinning so widely it looked like his face would split. NY Times today is full of articles on how brilliant this all is. Have to admit, it's quite a coup: Texas is paying $60 million toward A-Rod's salary?! Huh?

i guess paying $60 mill and severing the contract is better than being stuck with a $179 mill contract for an unhappy camper...

they're using monopoly money, right?

Real $ to us must be like Monopoly $ to Steinbrenner. Something to have fun with, and what the hell if you blow it?

yanks game plan for '04: win every game 14-13.

few teams have gone all the way with just strong hitting; gotta have some decent pitching. after mussina, the rest of the starting rotation is one big Question

Agreed re the NYY pitching. My nightmare at this point is that they'll sign Maddux just to hedge their bets in that area. Because, as you say Region, they can't win with that line-up if the pitching falters...

nolan ryan will reportedly work with the astros pitching staff this year
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1736919

how long before the 'stros acquire young joshua from the floundering marlins? that would complete the texas pitching lineage (ryan-clemens-beckett).

I have no beef with the Astros (or Ryan). I wouldn't even mind if Maddux signs with the Cubs, as the rumors have suggested he might.

It's the idea of Maddux pitching for NYY that makes me crazy. I hate that team, always have. The idea of his winning his 300th in that uniform makes my blood boil!

(Actually, that was my first reaction. Now it's: Well, there are more important things in life. Don't get all working up about this.)

It just amazes me that Steinbrenner managed to land A-Rod with Texas paying so much of his salary. Then, just to make it even tougher than every other team, they go after Maddux because their pitching is still iffy.

For sure. Selig says: You can do this, but don't think I'll allow this kind of arrangement again. Right.

When will baseball finally get rid of Selig and hire a commissioner with some creativity and backbone? I guess it'll happen when the owners want to give up some of their power. Ha!

baseball commissioner is the proverbial dirty job, someone's gotta do it.
of all people, i think joe torre would make a good commish... he seems to be a straight shooter -- no BS.
