A NY Times columnist boldly speculates today that Steinbrenner should try to obtain A-Rod to play third base. Makes perfect sense, except that it makes no sense at all...
The writer acknowledges that the same financial issues that kept the Boston deal from happening would kill any idea of this trade, too.
must've been a slow business day @ the NYT.
pay-rod @ 3rd?? while they're at it, they should get nomar to play 2nd. with jeter & giambi, talk about yer dreamteam infields
It wouldn't be too great a loss in right field if he did. Sheffield played the outfield with enthusiasm, if not always with finesse...
Henson has finally acknowledged the obvious and given up on his baseball career to pursue the NFL. Perhaps NYY can go after Kermit or one of the other Muppets for their next third sacker...
big bird would have the height to snare those high-hops.
altho cookie monster would be greedy and cut in front of jeter on those tweener grounders in the hole.
definitely not the grouch -- wouldn't ever wanna play
True. Miss Piggy also deserves a shot--she has the personality to thrive in the Big Apple...
Pitchers and catchers report in two weeks.
Oh man, Bill--I just had lunch!
Well, you were trying to expose Ms Piggy, right
Yeah. Another of those wardrobe malfunctions, I guess.
Pitchers and catchers report when?
isn't it usually a week before the rest of the team shows up?
let's see...
the first TV game is on ESPN wednesday march 3rd, 1:05pm -- Mets at Dodgers
so figure 2/24 or 2/25 for pitchers+catchers.
Big news this evening has to do with criminal charges for guys with contacts with pro stars for accessing illegal strength drugs. The group includes Barry Bonds' trainer (I think that's his role).
Imagine: Barry may have been helped by illegal substances. Who'd a thunk it?
will bonds be held accountable, or is he an innocent babe in the woods?

In today's NY Times, various commentators are falling all over themselves saying the likes of "Well, sure we all suspected he uses steroids, but he has a great eye for swinging at the right pitch. And look at how many times he isn't pitched to, and he still hits all those homers." As if the steroid issue is fairly minor in the grander scheme of things.
All I know is, if he does use 'em and he breaks Aaron's record, I will be pissed. Because, take one look at Henry's physique when he played--you KNOW he got no help from drugs!
This is for the Devil Rays. I found that other teams reported at other times.
D'art,
popeye had his spinach. why can't barry have his 'roids
True. No one ever held it against Popeye. Thinking about it now, though, I wonder what Bluto was taking to get that body of his?
