On Wednesday, October 6th, 2010
there will be a small dinner of the
Opulent Mensan Special Interest Group of New York Mensa.

Delight in the warm beauty and historical interest
of ONE IF BY LAND, TWO IF BY SEA at 17 Barrow St.,
a few feet east of 7th Avenue in lower Manhattan.

Its succulent Beef Wellington (baked to your taste) is hedonicly superb, altho
there is peril of addiction to the rapturous, sybaritic contentment thereby engendered.
Their menu offerings have been exceptionally savory & deeply satisfying, but
u may attain sprain of the brain from the pain of choosing
from among the multiply alluring menu offerings that woud seduce u
from the TRUE PATH that leads to the Beef Wellington; yield not your culinary virtue!

This restaurant was previously owned by Vice President Aaron Burr,
before he slew America's first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton on July 12, 1804.

Check the menu (note scroll bar, on the right)
on the designated link hereinafter set forth,
and those denizens of A2k who r interested, lemme know
so that I can give the restaurant an accurate count:

No smoking; cash is preferred over credit cards; minimum 20% tip

Friend dilemma solved! If she comes it will be with another friend, a mad Zionist, with relatives in NYC, and they will stay together there.

I think my friend is a bit offended that I said she'd need to find her own digs, and that we might have to meet up at places that I walked to, and she subwayed or taxied to...but I was feeling quite anxious until I said that.

Ah, well, we now know where the "OmSig" part of David's screen name comes from, in case we were wondering, tho perhaps, judgingfrom his menu, it should stand for "Obese Mensan..."

It was always in my profile.

too much, in my case.

Can you introduce me to the mad zionist? I'd like to convince her that Jewish settlements outside the 1967 borders are illegal. And of course I'd like to convert her to atheism. It'll be fun.

She, and very likely friend, not coming now.

Mad Zionist decided she couldn't afford it.

I'd have been very happy to let you at her, though.

Lord knows she's worn all of us down.

This looks like a trip that's coming together nicely.
You won't need any other companions other than the legions of A2kers who will be at your side the e n t i r e time you are here.
(See Roberta's note about hiding behind pillars.)

Make a list of what you want to see and do and eat ...... the Tsar, Roberta, Thomas, Omsig and I will make you a map of the order to try and get to it all.
And then we'll add in the "What about the ....s?" and the "You mean you have never had ....s?"

@Joe Nation,
Sounds good. But aren't you guys gonna tell ME this stuff?

Went haring up to the city today to pick up my passport.

I called Foreign Affairs tat 4.20 pm to ask them if it was there...it was. It was there! great, say I, will walk up now to pick it up.

Get there at 4.50 pm.

Lift refuses to go to 5th floor. I am puzzled. Man in lift explains to me that FA closes at 4.30.

Half an hour's work time to make up and no passport.

Grrr!

@Joe Nation,
Joe, give the girl options. Remember that ordinary everyday thingsfor you are exotic and really interesting for small town kids like us.
hot dogs and hookers in central park would be a highlite for me. I'm sure thats not the case for da bunny but you get the picture.

@dadpad,
I looked at a hot dog stand last time I was there, thinking I should try this legend.

Was unable to do so.

I LOVE Central Park, and, from 115th Street can walk down most days.

Da pretzel from da pretzel stand was a MAJOR disappointment!
