My first foray into Manhattan was a walk-up right off Waverly Place. Da west village. Great place to hang out.

We loved the West Village. And I love downtown generally.

Are you bottom, middle or top Boida?

@dlowan,
August?

So you'll be in NYC the beginning of September, not the beginning of October?

Still might be able to make it but that's a little harder in terms of the kid missing school -- more important stuff at the very beginning (and she'd be starting school right around there).

How long will you be there?

@sozobe,
No.

September is when we leave Australia for the UK and Europe.

I am in NYC from OCTOBER 2nd through 10th...leaving on October 11th.

@sozobe,
I am letting people know that I only have until late August to make NYC arrangements, as I will likely be out of computer contact after that.

And, if I don't hear from Beth or others that the weekend of 9th and 10th October will have some A2kers in it, I will likely be leaving New York on the 7th, not the 11th.

Figured it out after I asked. Embarrassed

The neighborhood I live in is called the Upper East Side even though there's lots of Manhattan north of me. Specifically, my neighborhood is called Carnegie Hill.

If you wanna orient yourself and you have a map, take a look at where the Guggenheim museum is. I'm three blocks east of there.

@dlowan,
I see!

OK, thanks.

That's a mighty trip, hope you have a great time.

I think the chances of us making it to NYC somewhere between October 2nd and 10th are goodish...

@dlowan,
I think we can finalize arrangements by then (late August).

You have an iPhone, right? I'll PM you my cell number (usable for texting).

@sozobe,
Great!!!

One of our friends is working somewhere in the UK (he doesn't know where yet) so we'll have some free accommodation at times.

We're hoping maybe to stay in a barge in Berlin! After a few days in Paris.

In every Apple store you can check your emails on their display computers.

@CalamityJane,
Good point, cjane. I've used Kinko, but it costs a bit, and some hotels/motels have a computer or two for guests. I'm not so sure how prevalent that is now what with lots of people using wifi, but it worked for me about five years ago, even in my low end places.

At present I am around effectively from 2nd October to the 10th..which is Saturday to Sunday the following week, flying out Monday 11th.

I'll be sure to be in the city then. I'd be happy offer you my guest room at the rate of one Vegemite toast a day, but currently I don't know if I'll still be in my current apartment when you come. I can tell you sometime in late August, if YMCA cancellation policies permit.

I have actually already paid...but free would have been gooder!

I'll now lose money if I cancel.

Of course! That's why I offered. I didn't really intend to host you, but it seemed like something nice to say.
