@dlowan,
Wow! When might you try to possibly fit a trip to Boston into your schedule?

Oh, how cool would it be if they had a live camera???

(was hoping that was what the pic was)

Squints... is that Thomas at the far end... no, maybe not. Can't tell.

@squinney,
I was hoping it'd be one of those places with the live stream ... but no Crying or Very sad

that is the place though - and that fella could be Thomas ...

@dlowan,
Well, I have to say that I enormously enjoyed meeting Joe and Thomas

Joe's even more fascinating than he is here, and Thomas is a joy

Might I say they'd both run half marathons earlier in the day and were as choipy as could be

It's not natural, I say

The restaurant was great

@dlowan,
Now I have to go out and hunt for food and coffee

I have to say I am really pissed off because I seem to have done something quite bad....maybe cracked a damn rib or something?...and I really am in lots of pain, which seems to be getting worse rather than better

I did a reasonable....but certainly not normally taxing...amount of walking yesterday....trotted through the park down to moma, and then walked down to the restaurant. It didn't seem far or anything, though I am much slower than I normally am (may I say both walks were glorious....NYC is the BEST city for walking in...I am enjoying it even more than last time!) and I was in quite severe pain in the evening. By the time I got to where I am staying it was quite awful, and it was really hard to sleep because of it....I think I laughed too much...it's kind of hard to breathe deeply, or move at all this morning.

I guess pulled muscles can do that too? Damned if I know

Hope I can find a chemist open cos I need more drugs for it

I assume I'll warm up as I get going

I had a surprise in the park.....boids! The ranger people had a passel of glorious owls and raptors that they were showing to people

I hasten to say these were boids that could not be returned to the wild

I love owls and I have not seen many so close up before....a wonderful treat

@dlowan,
I may need to clarify that I haven't done anything new to myself, this is from the stone stair fall in England

It's been hard to breathe properly and all since I did it, but I'd thought it'd be a lot better by now

As I said before, I am way better than you'd expect after doing that!

My pride suffered the most damage!

@dlowan,
Of course the boids made me think of Boida....I wanted to run and get her

Do any of you fitness freak folk know the best thing to take/do for the pain I'm having?

Can you tell if the pain is bone, muscle or something else?

broken rib?

@littlek,
I really don't know

I've never done anything much to a bone...no breaks....

My only experience is when someone's horse kicked my shin, instead of my horse, and I think that did SOMETHING to the bone, because it was extremely painful for ages and I had a lump there for yonks

I am sure I have no actual fracture of a rib because I understand that is really agonizing. It seems to have stiffened or something after the bit of exercise last night...though why so badly this time I have no idea.

I have used anti-inflammatories on it...but I hate them and don't want to keep doing it

I have been using a mix of codeine and paracetamol or aspirin, but you can't get that without prescription here, so I guess it's down to aspirin?

@JPB,
I'd be in agony, rather than nasty pain, wouldn't I?

Anyhoo, there's nothing to be done for that as far as I know

It's odd...the pain is referring to my left breast (it's not JUST there...it's the whole left upper thoracic) and I DID fall on that poor thing, though I ended up on my back, cos the stairs were twisting that I fell down) and I keep expecting it to be black and blue because of the level of pain....it's odd to see something that hurts so much looking all normal!

How about you rotate aspirin with an anti-inflammatory?

@littlek,
Yeah....I'll have to go aspirin hunting when I hunt for food and coffee!

Do chemists.....you guys call them drug stores I think...open on Sundays here?

I'm going to try to follow joes ideas about how to wrestle a hot shower out of the plumbing here....I had a freezing one yesterday

@dlowan,
The major ones (Walgreen's, CVS) are open on Sundays. You shouldn't have a hard time finding one.

"Difficulty breathing" is always something to pay attention to.

Yeah, broken/cracked ribs suck and take a long time to heal. Mr B is still struggling with painful ribs three years after his bike accident.

I worry about the difficult breathing part...

@JPB,
Don' worry about the breathing....I have asthma, I know from breathing.....it's just that it hurts when I try to breathe deeply....and the pain is clearly muscle or bone...it's not IN my lungs

It really DOES hurt when I laugh!!!

Or have to breathe deeply for exercise.

I'd better get in that shower...the poor young man who lives here and who I can hear stirring, is about to come out and find an old lady in a navy blue nightie sitting on his sofa, and I don't think he's ready for that!!!

@dlowan,
How painful were mr b's ribs? Incapacitating?

I'm really sorry to hear he's still in pain

@dlowan,
No, not incapacitating. He had a really hard time getting comfortable in bed, getting out of bed (standing from being prone), rolling over, etc. And a chronic, stabbing pain when he moved wrong, or coughed, or laughed. Doc gave him vicodin, but he gave up on it after a while. He had 4 ribs involved though, so it was a combination of things. He's sleeping fine but still has episodes when it flares up on him when he does something that aggravates it.
