@Region Philbis,
Poor Helen's 96 year old mum has fallen and broken hip.

@dlowan,
As you probably know, it's more'n likely that, at age 96, the old dear's hip broke and, on account of that, she fell down.

@dlowan,

Then train very late and also we were not able to get off train at the proper station in time so got taken miles away from where we were supposed to be. . ....

Terror scare due to the banning of the burqua in France, accidentally setting off a fire alarm in Edinburgh, Helen losing (and then recovering) her camera in Paris and the usual small dramas attendant upon traveling

Berlin looks great so far

So you're having a wonderful time & everything is running to plan, then, Deb. Wonderful to hear! Very Happy

Think of the terrific traveler's tales you'll have to tell when you get back home! I'd love to ask about details about The Fall, the terror scare in France, the setting off of the fire alarm & the lost camera ... but clearly you haven't the opportunity or the time to post the details. Later ...

I would also love to hear more about Berlin. Always wanted to go there, but sadly never made it.

I've completely lost track of your time-line . How long does this fabulous trip have to go now? And how long before NYC? (I can't wait for that!)

It sounds like you're moving along at a ripping pace. I hope you've allowing for the odd day or two of "rest time" as you go. A girl can get very tired on these exciting jaunts, I know ...

@dlowan,
Oh.
So she must fly home? (Perfectly understandable that she would, of course.)

So that means you'll be in Berlin & other planned bits of Europe on your own from now, Deb?
Or perhaps heading to the US earlier than you'd planned?

Hey bunny. You're still coming to Noo Yawk as planned. Right?

Glad you survived the fall relatively unscathed. Wanna hear about your adventures--firsthand in person.

G'day dlowan, you beaut Shelia you! I have much enjoyed your vibrant writing with its vivacious and effervescent style. Although not one to cast aspersions; heck, I don't even like fishing and I am well aware that I may have more truck parts than flowers in my yard, but even so I hope you will understand my vexation upon realizing that you hail from Oustralia; not the south side of Boston Mass as first I surmised.

Please accept my deepest sympathies.

@jespah,
Sounds ok as far as my trip goes

She seems to have decided to go home after Berlin (unless her mum actually dies, of course) maybe three days early

She has said she'll pay her half of the accommodation in London anyway...which is very kind

My plans seem quite able to stay in place

Helen's mum actually made it through surgery, which was done only because leaving her would have caused more pain.

Of course she may die at any time with complications but best case scenario is Helen makes it back in time to be with her when she dies

Mind you this is one tough old lady so I suppose it is possible she might hang on for longer

Meanwhile we are all going out to some cabaret tonight

Berlin is my favorite city so far

It's a bugger because my back is quite bad from lifting a mountain of cases off our cases when we changed trains in Mannheim, so I have been unable to do as much as I wanted, but the city has a lovely, free, easy atmosphere and we have greatly enjoyed ourselves notwithstanding various dramas

I am just about to go out seeking coffee and a nibble but have discovered the hotel wi fi works inside our room from the loo, so I am able to write this in private

It was free museum night on Thursday and we went to the pergamon museum which has the gates of Babylon and many other wonderful antiquities

Had dinner with friends last night and the night before

Helen is bearing up wonderfully though i don't know what it will be like for her if her mum goes in the next couple of days
