@dlowan,
Oh, good, on everything.

I mailed stuff back to the u.s. from italy four times on my month long trip. Each experience different, very different, even hilarious, but all the mailing interesting (Parma, Lucca, Florence, Rome). I went into a stationery store in Rome to buy a box, and the woman there dug out a box from her 'received goods' stack in the back closet space, and wrapped the stuff with paper and string as prescribed by the postal office, instructing me as she went along, then weighed and mailed the stuff for me, after which I paid the mailing fee and bought a tiny leather covered notebook. Well worth the time and trouble for the learning..

The time in line in Parma was the hilarious one, everyone in line complaining about the (whatever the word for dolts is in italian) behind the little window.

Glad Miranda has a new pal.

@dlowan,
Later, could you folks, Deb or Soz, or others who know it, do a thread about the British Museum, what you like so much? I'm sure I'll never get there, and I love the museums I love quite dearly, for wondrous and silly and kind of ravenous reasons, so I know what you mean, Deb, about living there. (I know there's not time right now.)

I suppose I could, but that would be Ignorance Spawning Inanity..

I think Walter posted on it a few years ago. More, more...

@dlowan,
Ooooooooh.
You're in Paris & you're heading for Berlin?
Sigh.
I am consumed with envy! Neutral

I hope at some point soon, you get the chance to sit down in some internet cafe somewhere & post in more detail, Deb. I'm all ears.

@dlowan,
At least, there are dozens* of areas with free wi-fi in Paris, which you can find in Berlin only in hotels.

Edited: *400 free hotspots in 260 different places in Paris centre

What I have in my calendar is that she flies in on October 1st, leaves on the 11th, and is available to meet up the 2nd through 10th.

@dlowan,
First morning inBerlin

Looooooong train trip from Paris yesterday complicated by not being able to get taxi to Gare de L'Est where train was leaving from

Then train very late and also we were not able to get off train at the proper station in time so got taken miles away from where we were supposed to be

Managed to use U bahn to get us back where we belonged

This after falling down half a flight of stone stairs in London, getting lost in the Louvre, having blisters the size of the Eiffel Tower, getting caught up in a major
Terror scare due to the banning of the burqua in France, accidentally setting off a fire alarm in Edinburgh, Helen losing (and then recovering) her camera inParis and the usual small dramas attendant upon traveling

Berlin looks great so far

Fabulous B and B, had a great dinner out with friends last night, going to free Museum night tonight, off for a walk down famous street
