You can write off 1st and a good chunk of the 2nd to jet lag. I am getting about in about 3.30 pm local time on the 1st.

The late afternoon/night of the 2nd is likely to be possible.
would you rather see people after you've completely shaken off jet lag?

i'm thinking sunday the 3rd or saturday the 9th are the two best days...

Either is fine.

I think I am catching up with different folk at different times....but for a general thing either is fine.

Is that the 11th October? (It would be 10th November in most countries!)

If you want me included, that is no good. I am flying on that morning, if it's 11th October.

@Region Philbis,
Since that's also Canadian Thanksgiving, it'll impact my travel plans. It makes a difference in ticket/accomodation availability.

It can be troublesome travelling on a holiday.

One thing to remember about luggage - at some stage, wheels or not, you'll have to carry it! Lift it on to trains; drag it along cobbled streets (very hard on wheeled luggage); hurry across the road.

While you may be permitted 2 x 23kg bags, can you lift them? Together?

I've travelled a lot and I'm getting older (strange, that!) - and now try to travel lighter and lighter. If it wasn't for having to include an SLR camera with lenses and noise cancelling headphones, I'd be trying to travel with carry-on lugggage only.

Travel forums such as fodors.com have wonderful hints on travelling with as little as possible. I spent some time on the weekend mentally re-assessing my packing after reading some stuff there.

@margo,
My last big trip, which you've all heard enough about, I carried a duffle bag and a big fat purse. Those wheel things are heavy, especially down subway levels of steps.

But dlowan already has her bags.

The only time I had trouble with checked bags was on my first trip to albuquerque.
I had gathered Dys would like my take on the garden, so I added a drawing pad, mech pencils, and electric eraser. Which, in my life, was like, a wave of the hand.

That's what got held up. Must have puzzled the security folk.
As it happened, Dys just wanted my nod re his garden. Which was, sure.

Margo, well I remember our dragging our giant luggage down viale Aventino in Rome, ca blunk, ca blunk, and then up the hill, at 35 plus hours sans sleep. After which we came on down the hill and slipped into a pizzeria..

K, never mind, I just speak in anticipation.

@dlowan,
Oh boy.

It's only Monday of my last week before starting holidays....

Now, Murphy's Law says it's all gonna hit the fan just before you go away.

But they've driven me to drink already.

Everything is going ferking crazy and nobody looks after my people when I am gone (not from meanness, I am just the only person who does my type of work.)

Tomorrow I have to waste the whole ******* day driving hours into the country and back just because a school is panicking and wants to be able to say I trained them (to cover their bums if something goes wrong) WHEN A WHOLE BUNCH OF THEIR STAFF WENT TO A TWO DAY TRAINING COURSE IN THE SAME MATERIAL A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND I ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF HOURS TO PRESENT BASICALLY THE SAME STUFF.

And I have to write a job application before I go.

I hate holidays!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!

@dlowan,

i've found that the last-minute work blitz makes the vay-kay all the more enjoyable, but you do need a day or two to unwind...

Yes; its a lot easier n less expensive to travel on ordinary non-holidays.

@OmSigDAVID,
The main street on the west side of LA coming back from the airport is crowded most days of the year. So, you get off the plane after a nice vacation and are immediately right back in the thick of things, facing a work week that is filled with matters to catch up on. I sound like I'm complaining, but I still love the travel.

I'm vicariously enjoying Dlowan's trip already.

Shouldn't need any more than one bag, (under 20kg) and a light carry on!
