Woman sees photo on evening news, tells police her husband is their bank robbery suspect

The Associated Press

BRADENTON, Fla. - Authorities south of Tampa say a man confessed to robbing a bank after his wife saw a surveillance photo on the evening news and alerted them.

A camera got a clear shot of the man with a pony tail and scruffy beard robbing the First Bank in Bradenton on Tuesday. The robber got away.

The Bradenton Herald reports that Manatee County Sheriff's officials got a break Tuesday evening when Afra Sandifar saw a news report about the robbery. She called authorities and told them her husband was the robber.

That's when 45-year-old Troy Sandifar fled the couple's apartment.

Deputies stopped his vehicle but Troy Sandifar refused to get out. They say he ingested what appeared to be drugs before they were able to arrest him. He was taken to the hospital, where authorities say he confessed.

@Reyn,
Must of been a nice reward - "leading to", and all such!

A pilot's spilled coffee accidentally triggered a hijacking alert and caused a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany, to make an unscheduled stop in Canada.

A Transport Canada report said United Flight 940 was diverted to Toronto late Monday and landed safely at Pearson International Airport. The coffee spill caused distress signals to go out, including code 7500, which means hijacking or unlawful interference.

The report said Canada's defense department was notified, but that with the help of United dispatch staff the flight crew confirmed it to be a communication issue and not a hijacking.

The report on Transport Canada's website said the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration reported that United's corporate office had indicated that the pilot "had inadvertently squawked a 7500 code after spilling coffee on the aircraft's radio equipment, which interfered with the communications equipment.''

@edgarblythe,
Yeah, I caught this one on our noon news here. What a costly mistake and inconvenient for the travelers! The plane made multiple stops.

This story caught my attention on the early local TV news:
We saw a surveilance video of a man who put a computer in a cart and walked out without paying. But, while he was in Walmart, his car was taken. On discovering this, he went back in the store to ask them to call the law for him. Turns out they had already called the law. But it was to arrest this shoplifter.

Police: US man breaks into house, gets drunk, then calls police after he can't get out

The Associated Press

WILMINGTON, Del. - Authorities in Delaware say a man broke into a house, got drunk and couldn't make his way back outside — so he called police for help.

Police say 44-year-old John Finch was trapped in the home in part because he'd broken into it before, back in April. That led the homeowner to change the locks so that a key was required — even inside.

Police say no one was home when Finch broke in again, through a rear window. He stayed for a few days, drinking five bottles of liquor. He was too drunk to climb back out of the window, however, and called police, who arrested him.

Finch faces charges in both break-ins but has yet to make a court appearance. There was no indication Finch has retained an attorney.

A witch tax in Romania has those practicing the craft cursing. For the first time, Romania’s government is imposing an income tax on those who make money through performing spells and reading fortunes.

Romanian witches hurled poisonous mandrake root into the Danube River cursing the president and government after learning of the tax.

"What is there to tax, when we hardly earn anything?" said Alisia to the Associated Press, identifying herself with only one name as many Romanian witches do.

Other witches were excited for the new law saying it gives their income formal recognition.

Humor? Glad the I don't live in Romania! Razz

Hey, they wanted to be taxed. If they feel that good with a little taxation, they ought to feel great with a lot more.
