@edgarblythe,
William and Liam are the same name, the latter being the gaelic version. Dad's right on pronunciation wise, but most Aussie's are 1/2 Irish anywho, right?

@dadpad,

Got one of those here. father is named Will his son is Liam

That makes sense, since they're probably both Williams.

This woman didn't seem to realize that she'd given both of her kids essentially the same name.

Just saw a clip on the news of Derek Jeter. The pitch appeared to strike him. He reacted with seeming pain and was awarded a base. But the replay showed the ball actually hit the end of his bat. Good acting, dude.

Just came from a funeral of a friend. He was an amazing guy. The eulogy read like a great novel. I am proud he was my friend.

@edgarblythe,
I just saw this, edgar. No wonder you are not celebrating.

Maybe this oddity and humor will cheer you up.

Florence, SC (WPDE) - A woman's day on the lake ends with a hefty prize -- a 900-pound catch.
Mary Ellen Mara-Christian killed a 13-foot long gator this week.
The Massachusetts resident successfully got a permit through South Carolina's permit lottery system for the one month long alligator season. Wednesday morning, she headed to Lake Moultrie with her husband and a few friends in search of a gator.
"He was right there at the edge of the bank swimming on the edges," Mara-Christian said.
She hooked him with her fishing pole and battled for two hours to get him near the boat. In South Carolina, you have to secure the gator and get it to the boat before you're allowed to shoot it.

letty, I saw that gator on the TV machine. I believe I would have let it get away. Like Bill Haley, would have said, "See ya later - '

@edgarblythe,
I'm with you, edgar. Odd, no?

More oddities and humor, buddy.

PARIS – On the day Paris was liberated from the Nazis in 1944, a young American soldier nabbed a souvenir of epic proportions: He took home the French flag that hung from the Arc de Triomphe, a symbol of the end of four years of struggle and shame.

Six and a half decades later, the aging veteran has given the flag back to the city of Paris.

Officials from Paris City Hall took possession of the 12-meter (13-yard) tricolor flag Saturday in a ceremony in southern France, a step in its unusual journey from New York state back home to Paris. The American veteran remains anonymous, too ashamed to come forward.

French officials have no intention of scolding him: They have only thanks and kind words for him, pointing out that he once risked his life for France.

"I'm infinitely grateful," Catherine Vieu-Charier, deputy to the mayor of Paris, told The Associated Press. French historian Christine Levisse-Touze insisted his act couldn't be considered a theft.

now the humor.

I am both sad and puzzled by stories I read about the Quaids. I was a fan for years.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Actor Randy Quaid and his wife are facing burglary charges in California after the owner of the couple's old house reported they had been living there without permission.

A representative of the property owner called Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies Saturday afternoon to report that squatters had been staying in the guest house illegally. When deputies arrived at the house that evening, they found Randy and Evi Quaid, who said they had owned the property since the 1990s.

The property owner's representative provided documents that showed his client had bought the home in 2007 from a man who had purchased it from the Quaids several years earlier. A contractor showed police more than $5,000 in damages to the guest house that he believed was caused by the Quaids.

Police arrested the Quaids on charges of felony residential burglary and entering a noncommercial building without consent, a misdemeanor. Police also charged Evi Quaid, 47, with resisting arrest.

Bail was set at $50,000 each. Messages left with Quaid's attorney and agent were not immediately returned Sunday.

Last September, the couple was charged with defrauding an innkeeper of more than $10,000 as well as conspiracy and burglary after an invalid credit card was used at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Arnie Tolks had said an invalid card also was used at The Biltmore, a luxury resort in Santa Barbara.

Felony charges were later dropped against Randy Quaid, 59. Evi Quaid pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of defrauding an innkeeper and was sentenced to three years' probation. She was also ordered to perform 240 hours of community service.

Randy Quaid won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of President Lyndon Johnson in "LBJ: The Early Years," but he's perhaps best known for his roles in the "National Lampoon's Vacation" movies, "Independence Day" and "Kingpin."

He is the older brother of fellow actor Dennis Quaid.
