I love this Slate column. Justin Peters writes well and obviously has fun doing these 'dumb criminal of the week' pieces.

I have always found it very odd, and not without a good deal of humour either, that respectable people are so fascinated with ****, farts, bottoms, dangly bits, underpants and knickers.

Would anyone, I wonder, be willing to offer an explanation for this quaint and amusing aspect of civilised life.
