I'm finding some of the media reports I'm reading about this sort of activity in the US very frightening indeed, edgar.

I hope the situation not nearly as serious as it's sounding (from a long way away).

Because you want to be afraid. You want to believe that the Enlightened Left is beset by the barbaric and violent Right.

It makes your position all the more heroic.

The situation is entirely bogus.

Tomorrow a miscreant with left-wing associations might kill 10 people and the day after a miscreant with right-wing associations might kill 12. All it will mean is that in a population of some 300,000 million we are bound to have a handful of shites who can destroy much more than their slug-like lives were ever worth.

Use your brain:

America is not on the verge of falling into a pit of ideological violence. Sigh as you might and lament your continued life as you might, this isn't anywhere near the horizon.

So who might benefit from such stories and such reactions?

Use your brain.

@Finn dAbuzz,
That's not much of an answer, Finn.

But it tells me a quite a bit about your political thinking! Wink

Don't bother to question what your read edgar.

You're an intelligent fellow.

Does it make any sense to you that there is a truly dangerous and violent Right-Wing movement that singles Jindall and Perry for destruction, but is OK with 20 other governors?

Might there be a handful of violent nuts who could realize their sick fervor?

Of course, but to suggest that one or the other political spectrum has a monoply on such sickness is ridiculous.

Do you realize that the only person who had been arrested, in the last few weeks, for acts of politically motivated violence is the miscreant who has gone after Eric Kantor?

Do you realize that one of the more prominent a-holes in this sick Humvee group was a registered Democrat?

I believe there were fifty letters, last thing I read.
Plus, it is the far right going most nuts at this time. That is why this thread is about these guys and not the Weathermen or John Brown.

I started a thread about these Guardians.

Since they targeted Repub and Dem governors alike, they are after everyone.

The Guardians seem not to have a plan.

Of course it is a big deal in the sense that every life is precious, but do you know how many people die on American roads every year? How many choke to death on food? How many die from being hit by falling objects?

How many left-wing A2Kers are here posting threads on auto deaths, choking, and falling objects with the melodramatics of "sighs" and "I'm glad I'm going to die soon?"

If there was any evidence of a concerted right-wing effort to violently impose its ideological bent, I would be among those calling for clear and swift retribution, however that has not been the case.

Any amount of threatening letters to governors is not such evidence, any more than violent threats against George Bush were evidence of dangerous left-wing cabal.

Hysteria fed by pundits and politicians is not such evidence.

But if all y'all are willing to be such obvious tools of a partisan group's marketing strategy, so be it. You probably also think ShamWows are the greatest invention of the 21st Century.

Wow, that's cutting!

I replicated her post and changed her name for mine and that's "fifth grade?'

I guess I'm just going to have to come to terms with the fact that plainoldme isn't a fan of mine.

Sigh.

OK, between when I wrote my post and you responded, you came to believe it was 50 states.

Oh, you believe it was fifty letters last thing you read --- but you started the thread based on 30 letters, and now you're going to get all smarmy about it being 50, not 30? This is precisely why it is impossible to intelligently debate these topic with you.

The only way that changes the discourse is that you no longer have to try and identify the 20 governors these right-wing barbarians were OK with.

What evidence do you have that "it is the far right going most nuts at this time?"

The 50 letters?

I don't know why I waste calories on these threads. You have made up your mind that the Right is evil and spawns violence and are all too happy to tie that belief to the merest shreds of evidence.

You deliberately ignore any argument that might give you pause to reconsider your view: Who has been arrested for politically related violence in the last 30 days? In what party did the Michigan Militia members register?

I was mistaken, you are not intelligent.

Turn on the TV. Read the internet news. Talk to the people around you who receive the propaganda non stop. It can't be avoided.
