EDITORIAL: Packing a gun in Starbucks

From her posts, I surmise that she is mentally sick
and disabled from rational thought.

She is not the first commie
or nazi with whom I have discussed philosophical ideas,
but that cannot be a fruitful enterprise unless thay wish to discuss
pertinent concepts rather than hurl personal insults.
Such discussions can be (and have been) pleasant, with mentally healthier commies or nazis.

Not all commies are mentally sick. Mikhail Gorbachev seemed OK,
but this one is non compos mentis. I have put her on Ignore. It is a good riddance.

Yes; I stand by my analysis.
When I put U on Ignore, it was not for your opinions.
I have never done that to ANYONE.
It was because of anti-social rudeness that subverted rational analysis.

Back on Abuzz, we had extended experience with very rude people on both sides
of the political spectrum exchanging unsolicited, denunciatory personal analyses.
Thay seemed to enjoy that nonsense. I don 't.

The purpose of these threads is to examine the concepts or events
set forth in their opening paragrafs,
not to evaluate posters who contribute, on a personal basis.
If a poster is unable to restrain himself from off-topic ad hominem vitriol,
then we can make good use of our Ignore buttons. I do.

,, I have to admit david, that I am confused for I have certainly been guilty often times of anti-social rudeness specifically towards you and yet,to the best of my knowledge you have not put me on ignore.

His (your?) ignorance does not invalidate the threat.

The insult is the word your in parenthesis. Because going into a Starbucks or a mall or a post office or restaurant is a rather normal situation in which there is seldom a threat, to say that I am ignorant is an insult.

As I asked David early on . . . If a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged (an notion put forth by the right who sees muggers everywhere) . . . is a liberal a conservative who was once shot?

If u wanna offer one line quips, from your perspective,

On those few occasions
when u ventured forth for more extended consideration of some issue,
I deemed your rudeness to be confined within reasonable levels.

I would reply to what you have said David, but it seems that you take what people say and see two things: What it could possibly mean, and then what is furthest from any thing but what it means and then base your reply on that.

You have your beliefs and you are sticking to it tooth and nail, no matter way.

Why would you think that a question mark would absolve you from insult? I would take that as a reinforcement. . . and did.

She kept calling people lunatics, over and over again, instead of discussing the thread topic.
The problem is strictly procedural, not at all substantive.

As I said before, I have had enjoyable experiences discussing history with commies and nazis,
even tho I believe in great personal freedom, at the expense of domestic government power.
In other words, my goals as distinct from those of the commies and nazis are OPPOSITE from one another,
but that did not interfere with pleasant, fun analyses with them on a social basis.
This was so because all of us considered the issues in a scholarly manner,
without deviating to analyse their minds or mine,
and no one hurled personal invective; i.e., we were all reasonably polite.

However, in this case, the poster that I put on Ignore was a persistent offender
against another poster and against myself, to the point that I deemed intellectual analysis
of the subject matter no longer possible; hopeless, with that person.
I lost respect for the mind of the offender, finding her to be like a nasty version of Gracie Allen,
rather than someone with whom u can reason. I suspect that she is not capable of self restraint.

In other words, I deemed her to be a waste of time,
based on her persistent misconduct of mindless insolence.
There is no fun in reading bitterly hostile, hysterical acrimony.

I coud possibly give her another chance,
but I 'd be less than candid if I did not admit very little hope for better conduct, with the same result again.

OK, in recognition of popular questioning of my decision
to put that poster on Ignore, and because of my respect for Seed, I have reversed that decision.

She has another chance. She is off Ignore.

Even IF You think I did insult you, which I've stated was not my intenton (I didn't know if you were ignorant to the threat out there, I was asking if you were, hence the question mark. You stated that you were seldom threatened; what do you do in those times where you are, and what if one of those times ended up being your last? I'm seldom threatened as well, those few times are exactly why I want to defend myself), you're basically arguing that two wrongs make a right. As a teacher, I'm sure you don't allow that in your classroom.

If you'd like to have an intelligent discussion about the topic please let me know. You can start with not telling me what I can and cannot understand, fully reading what I write and taking it for what it means (not what you wish it to mean.
