@bulmabriefs144,
I hear Hitler was a lot of fun playing Risk with. But that is no redeeming quality at all.

Charlie Manson was a nice guy and a fair musician, too bad about that murder thing.

Your friend is a pornographer, he all but admitted to having sex with children under 14, I might admit that he was different in the old days, but I wouldn't touch him with your 10 foot pole, now. It bothers me how blase' you are about this.

How do you overlook he's facing life prison for kidnapping a 14yr old for sex? Or that he operated a site for child rape and incest?

@bobsal u1553115,
Living in Southampton I'm very close to Glastonbury, I go to Somerset quite a bit, although not always as far as Glastonbury.

Canterbury is a city, it has a cathedral that makes it a city, in fact it has THE cathedral, the first one, set up by St Augustine, that makes it an ancient city.

I grew up in Kent and went on a school trip to Canterbury Cathedral, I was given the talk by some high up cleric and I thin, some of it rubbed off.

I don't think it was the archbishop, I think Runcie was in situ at the time and he was coffin dodging from the off.

When I say the talk I don't mean sex, we were all primary kids, I know year's what vicars are supposed to do but he didn't. He spoke about Augustine sainting along at a slave market, that's how saintly he was, when he saw some London slaves and remarked they looked like Angels.

This is the sales patter here, a slogan that amongst all the usual religious paraphernalia, that is unique to Canterbury cathedral and features on many a plate mug and ashtray, not angels but Angles.

At that point Saint Augustine said that he would convert the **** out of them. I don't know if those were his exact words, but you get the jist.

@izzythepush,
We'd argue flat earth with them just to wind up the preppie know it alls.

Flat earth is nuts. The earth can be shown to be a sphere by observation. The first one being there are no planet sized flat heavenly bodies circling any other star.

Why is earth the only flat planet? How does gravity work with a flat planet?

It's laughable to even consider the possibility.

@bobsal u1553115,
12 year old sex.

Actually, Hitler was a whole foods fanatic and into stuff like veganism. He talked at one point about the "final solution" to white bread.

https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/uvIPPAiQICL2Vlzg1CTXzUkv_Bs=/6616x4912/filters:fill(auto,1)/fresh-and-delicious-504365663-58977fa85f9b5874ee39741e.jpg

Don't be a vegan.

(Or maybe, we can cut the guilt-by-association group identity bullshit, and realize that psycho killers sometimes like to walk their dogs, and that the idea of dismissing people simply for being with a group is the point I'm making. Also, it turns out that he really wasn't even vegetarian, that was Nazi health virtue signalling about clean living)
https://medium.com/@epicanimalquest/the-vegan-argument-hitler-was-a-vegetarian-3007bb7cd850

Hitler also LARPed Risk. He did war and stuff. It's one thing to play Risk among friends with a board, it's quite another to be a LARPer using real people.

Don't be a LARPer. (Okay, that one I'll say there's nothing good about)

@bobsal u1553115,
So in your mind, which is worse? Being seen with a 12 year old or being a flat Earther? Because it honestly seems like the latter.

By observation. You mean pictures that other people take? Such as people from NASA trying to sell you on funding their NASA stuff?
You'll notice I am not, nor will I try to sell you anything. Unless you wanna buy my books.

Because with my own eyes, I can tell you that the horizon is a straight line.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/785252424427765802/961040642656571392/MountainView_Flat.png
An undoctored look at a mountain view. Barring confusion on your part about vanishing points (note: not proof of curving), the horizon is a straight line.

Now, here is a curved horizon that I made with Filter -> Distort -> Curved Bend.
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/785252424427765802/961040768355692564/MountainView_NotFlat.png

In addition to being a hilariously bad digital edit, it is quite clear that a curved horizon simply does not happen in nature.

The vanishing point stuff? That's your eyes screwing with you.
But you can draw a straight line across the lower part of the sky. With a camera or with your naked eye.

If you see a picture showing anything otherwise, it has been photoshopped.

@bulmabriefs144,
How NASA does it. I dragged the doubled part down to make it blend and appear like a softer curve. Then I airbrushed any doubled clouds. This is an easier sell until you remember that no horizon you ever looked at from a mountain top is anything but straight.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/816868397836926996/961049763514564608/MountainView_NASA.png

Then I cropped the sides, cuz they gave away that I moved stuff. Con artistry at work.

@bobsal u1553115,
Hey feel free to believe a con game all you want, but I showed you how it is possible to turn a completely straight horizon line into a NASA-ready curved horizon. And that's what people are ready to place their trust in.

Btw, when you're done paying money to the government for its "space program", I'd like you to help me out. There's this Nigerian prince who needs saving, and they say they just need the check to be sent over. Noa I haven't got any money cuz I'm unemployed but I said I'd get help, so maybe you'd want to sign this check?

@bulmabriefs144,
This is round Earthers "proof" that the earth is round.

https://flatearth.ws/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/pontchartrain.jpg?w=640

Not only does this look stupid, but it only proves that you think Art 101 vanishing point is the truth. That idea is a good guideline, but you're standing at a, what, 45 to 60 degree left angle? Probably not standing either but kneeling or lying down so you line the bottom up. Yeah, you're gonna get a trick tilt angle.

This line isn't the line that matters. The horizon is straight, the object's tilting sideways while keeping contact with the ground. The expectation that it would somehow float in midair is naive. The line that matters is the horizon, and that the object at vanishing point is tilting not dipping. Possible on a disc, not proof of a globe.

Sky is flat. Water is flat. Earth is flat. That you fail at vanishing point is not my hangup.

This is still my favorite English cathedral (un)usual bits of paraphernalia:

I was stationed in Gainsborough just outside Lincoln...and most of us on the base went over to see the Imp at some point or another. I've visited it lots of times. The Rose (or Rosette) windows of the Lincoln Cathedral are among the most beautiful in the world. Hell of a place!

@Frank Apisa,
No angles and angels story though.

You'd think Augustine would be as revered as Patrick is, having brought Christianity to England, but no, we prefer a Cypriot who boasted about killing a dragon.

Like yeah, that happened.

I found that arguing/discussing the topic just gives the misguided an added incentive to double down on their chosen areas of non-expertise. Boring.
