@argome321,
Since Olivier has done so much work to get you this far, I’ll let him respond to the bulk of this post, but I have to respond to part of it.

You wrote:

Quote:
“…if you are without belief you are an Atheist, nothing more, nothing less."

I am saying you are completely, utterly wrong on that.

It is an idea built on a demonstrably false premise…one that should have been discarded long ago.

The false premise is that atheist has its etymology in “a” = without and “theist” = a belief in a god…making it “without a belief in god.”

But that is not the etymology of atheist. Actually, it comes to us from the Greek through the French…a = without and “theos” meaning god. It means without god…without any gods. Which really does not impact on this discussion.

But because of that false premise...you are, in effect, saying that anyone without a belief in any god…is perforce an atheist.

That is simply not correct.

I don’t mind atheist using the definition for themselves…but when they extend it the way you do…to require those who have no belief in gods to be atheists…I do object. And putting lipstick on that pig…by using agnostic atheist…still leaves a pig.

I have no beliefs in any gods…AND I AM NOT AN ATHEIST.

Your comment "“…if you are without belief you are an Atheist, nothing more, nothing less"...is absolutely incorrect.

You are dead wrong on both those things, Argome.

But you seem unable to ever acknowledge you are wrong.

Too bad that.

You will never be the grown-up you suppose your father was calling you...if you don't get that part right.

Blah Blah Blah such utter noise filling empty space

Nice try, Argome. Childish, but I'm willing to acknowledge...nice try.

Actually, I make more sense in one sentence than you do in the entire of most of your rambling posts.

By the way...responding with "Frank, this is why I don't respond to you"...

...is hilarious.

You were intending to be hilarious...right?

Could you answer the question clearly, please? You said you were ready to. I have no time for your usual evasive responses.

you see that is what real liars do, they lie and think that everyone else is a liar too.

Actually, that is how I picture you

Hey, don't let truth get in the way of your belief Laughing

@argome321,
You've gone completely off the tracks, Argome.

Olivier is correct...the quote is not from him.

It is a quote of what I wrote.

Get control. Let's get back on track.

This is not that big a thing. You simply are not correct in supposing that if you have no belief in a god...you are an atheist.

@Frank Apisa,
I am one, but there are lots of others, who uses latin to understand the word atheism. It may well be of greek origin. I think latin was around before french. Maybe your take on it was from a french person who knew greek. Whatever.

They call us weak or soft atheists.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_and_positive_atheism

I don't care if you define yourself as agnostic (something like 1000 times).
I don't care what any person thinks of him or herself as being, re religion.

Further, I don't think any of you posting in the last bunch of arguing pages are lying .

I'm interested in this thread, and have been a long time, not for arguing about these words, but for talking among ourselves about our experiences in dealing with, communicating (or failing to communicate) with, people who are religious - family, friends, or others.

@argome321,
You have posted as if it was mine a post which was in fact not mine.

It's either a mistake or a lie. Pray tell which.

This is your last chance to behave with any amount of class, Argome. Don't squander it.

You mean the coward and a liar comment Ithinnk that was frank..it's hard to tell you two apart.

But you admit you didn't understand my post but yet instead of asking for clarification you made pronouncement and drew conclusion that weren't mine. If you didn't understand my post then you were making these pronouncements from ignorance, do you consider that honest?

Second, my last chance? don't squander it? Truthfully I don't care. I have no respect for you.

What delusional world do you live in?

@ossobuco,
Use the thread whatever way you want to, Ossobuco. I will never tell you cannot. But I don't think it right for you or anyone else to tell others how they can use it.

As I have said many times...THE SAME DAY Kris started this thread...she was engaged in a discussion with a non-atheist. To suppose it is reserved only for atheists...is presumptuous and incorrect.
