@Olivier5,
That's what I've been trying to drive at; that no group is unique whether they are religious or atheists - or almost anything else.

Even many people of religion believes in education and science; it depends on the individual's subjective perception. Not all atheists are well educated.

@cicerone imposter,
Of course. Nevertheless, one can identify some common ground among dissimilar individuals. Atheists are just like any other group: one can identify some characteristics that they tend to share, on average. Just stating the obvious here, really.

How can it be if 'science' itself is a form of a religion?!

@Quehoniaomath,
Your interpretation is not a matter of concern to me...

I don't really care about hazy theories, yours or anyone else's.

Even in humanities?

@Olivier5,
Yes, even in humanities.

Some exceptions though, like some recently dead philosophers, who adopted a stance similar to Voltaire's.

Being friends with God on their deathbed can do no harm..

Death does tend to mollify even the best atheists...

What comfort can there be in embracing the concept of religion, simply because death is advancing? If you really are an atheist, you know it's an exercise in futility.

@edgarblythe,
When anyone declares they are an atheist, then change their mind on their death bed, they never were atheists.

@cicerone imposter,
People can change their mind, you know? Also it's a bit easy to criticize dudes on their death bed.

Not criticizing; just expressing my opinion.

@cicerone imposter,
Fair enough. I too see these last minute conversions as ridiculous but I am not entirely certain I'll resist the temptation myself... :-)

@Olivier5,
Hey, everybody has their own ideas about religions and almost everything else that humans value. No surprise there!

@cicerone imposter,
AND these individual ideas can change. Anyway, i am not sure the phenomenon of atheists converting near their death is significant in numbers... I know it happens and that believers tend to make some hay with it when it does happen to 'public' and militant atheists. But i doubt it's as massive a thing as alluded to in ed's video ('atheists don't exist because they all convert when the fatal hour comes' was one of the arguments mentioned in it).

I have known some atheists who died. None of them changed their minds, at least did not acknowledge if any even thought about it.

I expect when I die, religion will be the last thing that would enter my mind. I would have my thoughts on loved ones and unfinished projects.

@edgarblythe,
Loved ones for sure. I'm not so sure I have any "unfinished projects" left - except more travel around the world while my health and $$$$ holds up.

Ì tend to view alleged deathbed conversions with suspicion. It's not as though you can ask the subject of the claim to confirm it after the fact.
