When I was a kid, I did not really believe a pastor, who said, "Pray to God and he will grant you your wishes." Something like that. Didn't really believe, but took to praying to him for a horse. Just in case. But I was still struggling to come to grips with unbelief. It's not easy when others around you are not aware there is such a conflict in anyone's mind. They automatically assumed the Bible to be infallible and all to be believers. In my teens, when I let it out I was an atheist, people were genuinely shocked. Frightened, even. Friends of these people, in some cases, openly worked to persuade them to keep away from me. But I could not alter conviction, no matter the consequences. After my monumental struggle, it is not a bit likely I could ever rethink it all, at the end.

@edgarblythe,
I don't think that's a real risk. I'd be very surprised if you changed your mind, ed.

More generally, this particular video argument against the existence of atheists ('they all change their mind in the end') is easily dismissed by experience.

Also there's no telling how many believers lose their religion AFTER death... ;-)

What other argument was there in your vid? That men are biologically prone to transcendance and religion? That may or may not be true, but we are also biologically designed to rape and kill... Does that mean we should submit to our nature, or can we think a little more than that?

I'm personally not a big fan of materialism, and see room for a form of 'atheist transcendence' were minds would be valued more than bile. That doesn't mean gods exist though. It just means that all atheists are not necessarily materialist.

@Quehoniaomath,
No, it's not, as it has been said uncountable times.

Only non-atheists persist in calling it so..

As far as I'm concerned, it's an absence on belief.

@Quehoniaomath,
We know already that you are a specialist of denialism.

Quote:
In human behavior, denialism is exhibited by individuals choosing to deny reality as a way to avoid dealing with an uncomfortable truth.

That you choose to be that way is your problem..

Acuall this is a kind of Ad Hominem, because you don't know **** about me and are not able to understand where I am coming from.
I am not in denialism at at all, I am searching for any truth that is left.
It isn't much, I can tell you.

But it is just the way for you to cope with something you can't handle.

that is ok.

@Quehoniaomath,
What I know about you is sufficient to form an opinion.

You are not seeking the truth.

You just want to get a rise out of other posters.

Cerebral masturbation, I'd call it..

@timur,
Isn't it fascinating to actually see someone admit to denialism - to understand that applies to himself. I believe this is the very first time I've ever encountered someone like quohog.

@timur,
I never had any illusion being unique, frankly I don't care.

I am only after the truth and it is difficult to find any in a world of so many lies.
