What this is is a faction employing travesty, atheists, against a faction employing parody, Christians.
Travesty is trying to make the sublime look ridiculous. Usually with exaggerations and various literary styles although bald assertions often suffice when those conceits are undeveloped.
Parody is trying to make the ridiculous look sublime. As a Mahler symphony does to noise. A cathedral for lumps of stone. A blushing bride from the Willendorf Venus. A trick the Magic Circle can't match.
It is well known that we are ridiculous and thus making us look sublime is quite a feat. Mystical even. If only in short bursts. Which might be healing.
Making us look ridiculous is easy.
The problem for atheists is that they have to deny the sublime as Setanta did the other day. And to recognise it as worthy of their attentions.
