You know, EB, at some point we have to stop feeding the trolls. That might mean abandoning the thread for several days, until they get tired of attempting to feed off one another. At such time as we were to start up again, we have to ignore them if they show up with their bullshit again.

@Setanta,
I have them on ignore. It was my thought to flood the thread until they had lost sight of one another's posts. Turns out the flood prevention won't let that happen.

@edgarblythe,
I promise not to demand prayer in your school. But, if by some conjunction of celestial events, you should ever happen to find yourself in my church, I would hope very much for you to think.

@edgarblythe,
Well, those clowns are oblivious, too--they'll soldier on as long as they even think someone is talking to them, or even if they know no one is talking to them.

Many more readers than talkers, Set. But I get your point.

but presumably you've got him on ignore too because you don't want to learn..Wink

I wasn't huffing when I said you were an adolescent. You certainly conduct yourself as one...and I'm calling you on it.

By the way...I am not an atheist.

I've been getting out of the sand pretty good lately. Hitting a bit further back from the ball than I used to...and it seems to be working.

Texas Congressman is on the Warpath to Make Atheist Military Cadets Swear an Oath Containing ‘So Help Me God’
by Terry Firma
Sam Johnson (R-TX), once named the most conservative Member of Congress by National Journal, thinks atheists in the military should be forced to acknowledge God and swear a pledge to the Almighty. He’s even introduced a bill to make that happen.

Johnson’s initiative is a response to the U.S. Air Force top command’s recent decision to make saying “So help me God” optional when cadets pledge they’ll abide by the military code of honor. In other words, cadets who want to say that phrase may do exactly that, as before; those who don’t will swear the oath just the same, but without the deity reference.

Sound reasonable? Not to Johnson it doesn’t.

@hingehead,
I trust that won't pass, at least at sc level.

On the other hand I feel religion enveloped.

@ossobuco,
I have commented here re a situation when I showed up with my clients who wanted to build a multi building place, which we'd all sweated out a lot of design on.

I was busy in my brain re the pros and cons of the site and suddenly I heard prayers to jesus christ for us all to start the meeting

In my case, I had brains not to argue, as I had clients. They were chinese. Who knows, maybe chinese christian. Not me, and I still don't. But I was appalled, out of it appalled.

I'm feisty, but I don't want my views to hurt my clients. The project passed.

I liked those clients, remember them well. We never talked religion.
I know I stood up, but don't remember what I said.

Meantime this new supreme court question gets my goat.

Finally: Scientific Proof of God’s Existence
November 7, 2013 By Hemant Mehta 121 Comments
Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt (a.k.a. “Dr. Chaps”) — a right-winger and Bryan Fischer-wannabe — says he has scientific proof of God’s existence!
And mathematical proof, too, as seen below:

But back to the science (at the 24:44 mark):
Quote:

I can prove God! Even to the most skeptic of atheists. And this is a scientific method. If you follow these three steps, God will reveal himself to you, experientially, and you will see God with your own eyes. Oh, I thought God was invisible! Yes, but here’s what you gotta do. Follow these three steps! It’s really easy.
Step number one in my personal, experiential proof of God is: Admit that you’re a sinner and that God does not rule your heart and mind. That should easy for you atheists, right? You already know that God does not rule your heart and mind. Just admit that out loud.
Step number two: Renounce your sins and ask God to forgive your sins through Jesus Christ and His substitutionary sacrifice…
Number three is the final, most important step and that is: Invite God to rule your heart and mind. Ask the risen Jesus Christ to rule inside of your heart!

Yes, a proof so airtight, all of you reading this are now shutting off your computers so you can run to church. I don’t know how the proof eluded me for so long!
But really, were you expecting better science — or any science — from someone who seriously believes he can convert atheists by just reminding them about the Jesus Myth?
(Thanks to Kyle for the link!)

I wasn't just mumbling again. There is case before the u.s. supreme court about prayer before city council meetings. Said to be decided before June, taken in whatever article I read to be fine with the prayers.

On the occasion I described, I found it chilling.

@ossobuco,
Atheism is like celibacy. It denies something. The thing denied has to be considered before it can be denied.

Whether the urge to believe in gods is stronger than the urge to have sex is disputable but history suggests it is.
