As I read this, scattered snowflakes are drifting across my kitchen window.
Three-mile time trial today.
31:14
10:24 pace
@George,
four-miler, first time out in a month.
dogs are barking accordingly...
better effort in today's four-miler... had something left in the tank when i was done...
@Region Philbis,
Never tell your coach that.
I wanted to do a long one yesterday, but life intervened.
I settled for a slovenly 2.8.
Cross-training at the gym this morning -- elliptical, rower and stationary bike.
I did three yesterday and was looking forward to doing four today. When
got to the locker room, I found that I had not packed long pants. It was
forty degrees out. I stayed in and put in forty minutes on the recumbent
exercise bike.
Weenie.
It was Friday morning, a day off work, no commitments for the morning and
rain forecast for the afternoon; perfect opportunity for long slow distance.
The temperature was right around thirty, so despite what the calendar said, I
had to dress for winter.
I set off at a slow pace, clumsy at first, but then settling into a rhythm. If you
stay off Main Street, a jog through Stoneham can be pleasant. Well, except
for the hills. I headed over into Wakefield and along the shore of Lake
Quannapowitt. Jogging along Quannapowitt is also pleasant. Well, except for
the wind.
Having logged four miles, I turned around and headed back home. The last
two miles were hard on the legs, but I managed to keep jogging to finish out
eight miles -- longest run of the year to date.
@George,
impressive
may your recovery be swift...
did not run once in april due to a bizarre allergy-induced phlegmmy cough
(which i thought for sure was an infection, but my doc said otherwise).
it's been effecting my breathing, so i've been taking it easy.
he said i should use an inhaler, as if i had asthma.
but enough is enough -- this morning i dust off the running shoes for a two- or thee-miler...
@George,
taking a deep breath without coughing was a struggle at first, but once i got into rhythm i was fine...
@Region Philbis,
Great!
I had similar issues a couple of weeks ago, to the point where I had to go
home from work and then sleep though most of the day. After a couple of
recovery days, I did some jog/walks to build back up. Saturday I went for
a ten-mile bike ride and today I am going out for a jog, hopefully 3-4 miles.
@George,
Three miles yesterday in glorious weather.
Four today? Maybe.
@George,
Did four yesterday without knee pain or respiratory issues. My pace was not
especially good, but it wasn't terrible either. I'll be turning 73 in June and
my customary goal is to do 10 K in fewer minute than I have years of age.
That means 1:13:00 or a pace of 11:46. That looks possible.
