As I understand it, the Phillies were facing a batter notorious for hitting to right. They did a major shift with the 3B guy moving to SS and the SS playing on 2B.
Damon stole 2nd and kept on going, noticing that there was no one covering 3rd. That's the way I heard it described this morning.

You almost needed to see it. Damon had to figure the thing out in the blink of an eye and he did. Feliz had the ball in his hand no more than four feet away and part of the calculation had to be that he (Damon) could outrun the guy. If there was such a thing as a PHD in Baseballogy, it should have been presented to Damon after the game. I mean, Feliz (and the entire Philly team for that matter) was left standing there with, in the immortal words of Santino Corleone, just his dick in his hand. Now all they need to do to win is beat the Yanks twice in NY with Pettit and Sabathia pitching and Cliff Lee resting. Good luck...

Yeah, they shifted right for Teixeira. Feliz got the ball, Damon started to pass him, and Feliz looked to throw to third. You could almost see the thought process, "I'll just throw to third. There's no one covering third. Oh wait, I am third." And then he just let him go by without trying to chase him down.

Those are the kinds of mistakes you see at a little league game.
