@DontTreadOnMe,
Yeah, nobody plays the lyre anymore, and it wasn't even a good time to make requests.

I'm thinking Tourette's Syndrome. Either that or he's an idiot. Either way, at least he had the sense to apologize. But as punishment, I think he should be forced to attend the next address with his mouth duct taped shut, just to avoid a repeat.

@DontTreadOnMe,
He's already made an apology, tail between his legs. For now, at least, it appears as if he won't make it to another term. Apparently, his opponent raised $36,000 just after his outburst.

OK, I have to preface this by saying I did NOT see the Presidents speech last night (we had a fire run).

Having said that, I dont understand what the big deal is.
The man simply called Obama a liar,regarding what he was saying.
Is the President so special that people cant heckle him, even in Congress?
The man was making a public speech, nothing more.

Are the halls of congress so sacrosanct that people have to be quiet and not react to what is said?

@mysteryman,
Funny Mysteryman. Barney Frank made the exact same point on Rachel Maddow last night. "It's a free country!".

But, of course, the reverse is true...

What's the "big deal" about calling Joe Wilson a disrespectful, immature right-wing idiot?

((No one is suggesting any sanctions against this guy, we are just exercising our right to ridicule him)).

@ebrown p,

In this country, yes. Other countries have different customs.

If thats what you think he is, and if thats what you want to call him, I have no problem with it.

@ebrown p,
What, did you expect me to argue?
Sorry, but I dont believe that anybody in DC is above heckling, even when making a speech to congress.

Quote:
House Majority Whip James Clyburn, a South Carolina Democrat, said the remark was the latest in a long line of political attacks by Wilson.

“Joe Wilson took our state's reputation to a new low. I thought Mark Sanford had taken it as low as it could go, but this is beyond the pale," Clyburn said.

"Joe is very confrontational," he added. "He held his first town hall meeting three blocks from my house at my kid's high school. Now why would he have this town hall meeting in my congressional district, three blocks from my house in my kid's high school? It's not in his district.

That's the kind of guy Joe Wilson is. He loves confronting people. So he was confronting the president, just as he was confronting me."

As the title of the thread states... What an idiot!

I hate those youtube things (can't hear too well, hopeless at reading lips on those as well), but apparently he hollered out, "you lie" after President Obama said this coverage will not cover illegal immigrants. Not only was it inappropriate, but wrong as well. According to the source below only legal residents or citizens are entittled to subsidies provided in the bill; however, undocumented workers are required to buy insurance.

Quote:
A new report finds the bill could require illegal immigrants to buy coverage, but it clearly restricts subsidies to U.S. citizens and legal residents.

From a link in this source.

@revel,
And I will ask you the same thing I asked someone else.

You quoted...

So, what if that illegal immigrant has a child that was born in the US?
That child is a citizen.
How are we going to stop the parent from getting subsidies to buy insurance for that child?
And how are we going to make sure that the subsidies go ONLY to that childs insurance needs?

I agree that that should be the custom. However, it isn't, so Wilson looks like an ass.
