@Rockhead,
A TD would have been nice, but we Miami bettors will settle for a FG. The clock favors us. I hope.

You didn't put down a final score in the Tenn @ Houston game, Fox. No urgency as you are covered for tonight's game.

@edgarblythe,
Yes, larger font AND Italics, may not show up well in Italics to some mature squinty-eyed viewers. Nervertheless, Houston is my pick so everyone else it's safe to bet the other way.

Grrr...Carolina sucks. Ricky don't lose that number!
I hate when I pick non-playoff teams and they square off.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me, Edgar.

Spendius & Imur: Today comes news (I read about it on the BBC) about a big game-fixing scandal in Europe in soccer/football.
This comes on the heels of the World Cup qualifying game between France and Ireland in which a French player used his hand to keep a ball inbounds and set up the game winning goal.
Comments?

@realjohnboy,
Well Johnny-- it is not all that easy to explain. In fact it borders on the irreducibly complex. Where would one start?

I think that the chap who played with the ball with his hands had it right. He has said that if the Irish deserved to go to South Africa they should have buried the French before half-time. It's another form of a tie-breaker.

Then there's the money to consider. The Irish don't, as a rule, buy the sort of products which will be advertised at the finals in sufficient quantities to justify their qualifying.

You should study Andy Warhol.

@spendius,
Surprise, Spendi gets a plus mark from me. I usually zoom in around neutral from bafflement at such well spoken but ungainly arguments.

Although, now you mention it, I'm of irish heritage. Not related to any sports opinions from me at this point in my life.

@realjohnboy,
From this small nation's perspective, the greater "scandal" was that the games's ruling body changed the qualification rules (by introducing "seeding") just three weeks before the draw was made to avoid the possibility of France or Russia or even Germany (at that point, their' automatic qualification was not assured) being knocked out by one another. So, depressing as it is, I'd agree with spendi's summation having regard to economic imperatives .

Having said that, the fatalist in me is reminded of the joke about a boxer who was getting seven lumps of shite beaten out of him in a contest. With one round to go, he asked his corner how he was doing. "Let me put it this way," his second replied. "You'll have to knock him out to draw."
