@spendius,
Nice snag, Spendius. There is a sleepy thread I started called "Did you know" in which I wrote about the one-time prisoners marrying the sisters of one-time enemy soldiers. I was quite proud of the writing in that post. I, or someone else, could find it, perhaps.

Well, the @ matters because there can be a home team advantage with some teams in some stadia. We do have a three hour lag across the continent, which I trust is part of the timing, along with tv scheduling. All of which adds up to, I dunno.

@JPB,
Damn. That was from early 2007. How did you find that?

Click on "realjohnboy" (your name), select the "Topics" tab (which lists the topics you started), and it's currently the 8th one down.

@realjohnboy,
I could discuss the fun I had sanding my floors, or the sewer backup into my den this past weekend, if you think any of that would be entertaining banter, RJB.

In England, and throughout the sporting world, the home team is always listed first.

Evidently not the entire "sporting world," huh?

In baseball, the home team bats last.

Which is rather odd, because they are guests.

They are turkeys ready for stuffing.

Even the ref. agrees

Quote:
Home League Penalties Conceded since 04/05 Season :-

Manchester United 5
Arsenal 4
Chelsea 3
Liverpool 2

Home League Penalties awarded since 03/04 Season :-

Arsenal 30
Liverpool 17
Chelsea 15

Manchester United 15

And MU are notorious for saving the points by goals scored after the clock says time is up but the ref, is allowing a bit more at his own discretion.

I think this is due to the FA wishing to ensure that these four teams are the ones to represent England in the Champion's League.

We all know, btw, that away teams are much more likely to commit fouls in the penalty area. Oh yeah!

Away teams are turkeys Tico.

Another diversion ... The Start Spangled Banner sung by five young ladies at a Texas Tech University Basketball game some time ago. The two young girls on the right are six years old, the two in the middle are seven and the one on the left is eight. Really amazing ...

@Ticomaya,
But there is another America Tico

They say that patriotism is the last refuge
To which a scoundrel clings.
Steal a little and they throw you in jail,
Steal a lot and they make you king.
There's only one step down from here, baby,
It's called the land of permanent bliss.
What's a sweetheart like you doin' in a dump like this?

My father was a supporter of the team that missed the penalty and travelled about 25 miles the next weekend for the replay which his team won. 25 miles was a long way in those days. During the celebrations later in the day he met my mother in an incident involving a revolving door in a hotel. And here I am--the result of a missed penalty.

Exactly as foretold in the prophecy! Smile

@wandeljw,
Hey wande-- there are now 17 people on this earth as a result of that missed penalty and that is not counting the dynasty of my mother's sister who met her husband through my father. Another 14 that I know of there.

From a Darwinian perspective it would look like missed penalties are an evolutionary plus from the point of view of the genes.

When science triumphs there will be no more of such hit and miss idiocy I shouldn't think. They'll match everybody up according to some scientific principles or other won't they?

@spendius,
I've started wondering now whether there is a highly successful "sporting gene".
