It's gone very quiet around here. I only hear the sound of carpets being softly lifted and a brush sweeping something underneath so that when it is dropped back the offensive material will be out of sight if not of mind.

I would hire a brass band but they are so expensive these days my dears and what with the recession--well--one can't be too careful.

I hope there have been no pms flying the underground coils requesting Johnny to fake an emergency calling him away lasting long enough for this thread to become entombed and forgotten in the bowls of the beast on which it is recorded. It is well known that I have a short attention span.

WEEK #17 was challenging, given the benching of players by playoff bound teams to perhaps a "why bother" attitude by teams whose seasons would be ending. We managed to go .618 as a group. Not bad.
Spendius finished at 14-2 which is awesome. He missed in the Chiefs-Broncos game (as we all did) and in the Packers-Cardinals game.
Osso, Fox, Ragman and Johnboy did well at 12-4. Rhyss, Cowdoc, Maporsche and McGentrix came in at a very respectable 11-5.
Alex, Fbaezer, Mysteryman, George, ElStud, EhBeth, Liontamerx and Panzade were in a big group at 10-6. Cowdoc, Tico and Clubber could only manage a 9-7 record.
It was a break-even (8-8) week for Lmur, Edgar, Jespah, JPB and Wandeljw.
Region and Miz Cowdoc ended up at 7-9.
The best ESPN expert went 13-3 while the worst was 9-7.

And the FINAL STANDINGS after the 17 weeks of the regular season!

1) Spendius (182-74 .711) ends with a fine week (14-2) and grabs the title at the last . moment. Well done. Congratulations!
2) McGentrix (180-76 .703) held on to 1st place for much of the season, had a good week (11-5) but couldn't quite hang on. Great season, McG.
3) MaPorsche (177-79 .691) made some gutsy calls but remains in 3rd.
4) Johnboy (176-80 .688) climbs a spot from 5th.
5) Clubber (175-81 .684) slips from 3rd.
6) Panzade (174-82 .680) settles down 1 from 5th.
7) Liontamerx (169-87 .660) remains in 7th.
7) EhBeth holds on to a share of 7th again this week.
9) Ragman (171-85 .668) had a good week but slides from the tie for 7th.
9) Fox matches that.
11) Cowdoc (169-87 .660) moves up from 13th, ahead of the Miz.
12) Tico (168-88 .656) slumps from 7th.
12) Osso bumps up from 16th.
14) ElStud (157-83 .654) inches up from 15th.
15) JPinMilw (146-78 .652) drops from 13th.
16) Miz Cowdoc (166-90 .648) spirals down from 7th. Crash and burn.
17) Rhyss (164-92 .641) rises from 18th.
18) Region (163-93 .637) slips from 16th.
19) George (160-96 .625) stays in 19th.
19) Fbaezer does, too.
21) Mysteryman (159-97 .621) holds onto 21st.
22) Wandeljw (157-89 .613) ends down one from 21st.
22) JPB - fellow Chicagoan - does the same thing.
24) Jespah (156-100 .609) stays in 24th.
25) Alex (155-101 .605) climbs a notch from 26th.
26) Edgar (154-102 .602) slips from 25th.
27) Lmur (149-107 .582) keeps his sense of humour as he holds the cellar.

The best ESPN (.684) would move up from 7th to 5th while the worst (.645)
would go from 18th to 17th.

That's all folks!

@realjohnboy,
Thanks RJB...I'm not 'happy' with 3rd....but I could be tied with Fbaezer so that's good enough, I suppose (j/k, there's no way that would ever happen Laughing ) .

Nice work Spendius; too bad you don't believe in evolution, those genes may have made your son a rich man.

@maporsche,
Oh--but I do believe in evolution map. I don't think teaching such a theory to kids is a good idea--that's all. Not the real thing I mean. If you have some lower-middle-class version of it I don't suppose it would do much harm but the subject of the current thread is not the teaching of the lower-middle-class version of evolution theory and thus I thought it would be trolling to pretend that it was.

How is Pat White getting on? I hope he's okay.

@spendius,
I know that Ike Taylor looked like a thing when it happened and it was thus an accident. But was it an accident?

Congrats Spendius, and hang in there with your I.D. convictions. They seem to be working for you.

Thanks RJB for all your service to make the 2009/10 season more fun for all of us.

Congrats to Tico for winning A2K fantasy football - yet again.

Ya'll all have a good year now and take care.

Not to be accused of fixing the game, I did not change my Indy pick. No biggie. Good season, best I have done at this game and Spendi kept it competitive.

@realjohnboy,
For all you stat freaks, here's my shot at this (without using a spreadsheet):
As near as I can figure, our group's median (not mean?) percentage is around .654. As near to it as I can tell, there are 21 different entries of percentage (placement) with several bunched in at same percentage:
1. 711
2. 703
3. 691
4. 688
5. 684
6. 680
7. 668 (2)
8. 660 (2)
9. 656 (2)
10. 654

middle

11. 652
12. 648
13. 641
14. 637
15. 625 (2)
16. 621
17. 613 (2)
18. 609
19. 605
20. 602
21. 582

I'm not sure what our overall group's average percentage is, though

Thanks johnnyboy. Good season.

We have a new benchmark for the Pick'em Game: The George Line.
If you are at or below the the George Line, you're in trouble.

@realjohnboy,
Thanks very much johnboy; your good humour and management skills are greatly appreciated by me and everyone here, I'm sure.

Congrats to the Pom with Aplomb. Please keep posting your gee-gee tips on the Brit thread. They've come in handy on a few occasions.
