@ossobuco,
Mame has been regularly posting on other threads during September, she is getting on in years and has probably forgotten about this one. Laughing

@Dutchy,
mm? When I post 'snort' I mean I am laughing a lot - and that is where my humour is.

@ossobuco,
I learned about that on a2k, actually, never having read about people snorting in other than contempt before. If I post that, I don't mean ill. It's all about - I gather - a bunch of folks laughing so hard they have nasal troubles.

@ossobuco,
Thanks for the explanation ossobuco, amazing how words are interpreted differently in various parts of the world. I understood 'snort' to mean contempt. Wink

@Dutchy,
And thanks for alerting me - it never occurred to me that people thought I was being contemptuous. (Oy, past threads, what to do...)

@Dutchy,
I can see how it could be taken that way. I always thought of it as stifled laughter, but yeah. . . .

@roger,
Snorting in laughter does happen, though I don't remember it ever happening to me - sort of an explosive sucking of air.

@ossobuco,
I always think of it as an outflow rather than an inflow. You know, like snorting coke (or milk) through your nose when something catches you off guard as hilarious.

But then... there are those who snort the other kind of coke in through their noses... nemmind

<snort>

@ossobuco,
Hello you guys. Thanks for the hugs about my friend. It was a terrible shock and completely unexpected. I am still feeling the loss.

But thankfully, I have 10 people to take my mind off it. The original driller, Colin, was fired, because he screwed up a major hole he was drilling. He was 30 feet short of core, for heaven's sake. And then the night driller, Kevin, quit, because he was disgusted with this company (which is international). Anyway, we got a new day driller, and a new night driller, then the helpers went off on their leave, and to sum it up, we've had 7 day drillers (3 in one day), 4 night drillers, an additional guy - a foreman who likes to party all the time and has a really irritating laugh, and then we got 2 "water boys" who are responsible for 3 km of waterline, 24/7. On top of that, our geo, Joanna, got promoted to VPEx, so we got a "substitute" geologist who has been here a month, and our young geo, Tyler, got promoted to coring log, so we got another log splitter, Troy, who eats as much as two men.

We've had 14 drill people, 6 geo/tech people in camp, plus 22 visitors who've come for a meal and stayed overnight. It's been a bit of a zoo. Truck Mechanics, Cat Operators, Mud Experts, Company Head Honchos, Visiting Geos from the Yukon Territorial Government, other Exploration Company Geos, Drilling Company Personnel, prospectors who got stranded in the wilderness by their helicopter pilot, even a French couple on a year long travelling quest who needed to wash their clothes but stayed 4 days and wound up cleaning the lodge.

The drilling is DONE. The drillers are loading their flatbed tomorrow and will have a last supper with us. Then we're down to 3 or 4 until the 30th, at which time I get to produce a tantalizing lunch for 15 "friends" of the CEO. The next day, I am to prepare a similarly delectable dinner for 25 of his nearest and dearest (plus brokers, analysts, etc) who will convene here during a 3 day "mine tour". However, on Oct. 2, I get to go home.

What started out as a 4 - 6 week tour ended up (as of next Saturday) as an 11 week one.

I have nothing but liking and respect for all who have been here. They are a great bunch of guys - polite, respectful, and fun. I have had a wonderful time. The only fly in the ointment is the owner of the Lodge, who seems to be dogging my shadow.

As soon as someone finishes downloading a movie, I'll post some pics of this crew and at that time I'll explain about the Mega Silver Party Smile I was the designated driver, so it didn't involve me, but it did cause some consternation for the drilling company!

From last night's party - don't know if this will play or not, but it's what they were doing all night, until they got into the beer. I went to bed around 9:00 p.m. and only drank Chardonnay. After not drinking for 10 weeks, I had no tolerance for alcohol, that was obvious.

The guys went fishing earlier in the day and the foreman tipped the canoe over. As you can see, one guy got drenched and nobody else would go in his boat.

Here's a pic of the guy who eats for two:

So they did about 15 of these 'shot' drinks:

And I'm surprised this guy is smiling - his wife took their kids and left him a couple days ago. And that's our 'replacement' geologist in the background.

Now, as to the party we all went to last weekend. Mega Silver was shutting down their camp and invited us to their end of program shindig. It was held at a pizza joint in Keno, about 30 - 40 km from here. Two trucks of us went. I was the designated driver and drove Tyler (front seat), a drunken foreman (Brody) and our geo (Erin) who were in the back. We had gone maybe 2 km down the road when Brody pulled out a box of Sommet Rouge. Nobody had a glass, of course, so this is what went on:

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/WetCoast/IMG_3369.jpg

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/WetCoast/IMG_3372.jpg

Anyway, the party was kinda quiet so we left around 10:30. The other truck had to go to the drill for something (an hour each way) so they didn't get there until we were on our way home. The next morning they weren't at the lodge... we heard they went into a ditch and had to sleep at Alexco Mining until some kind of huge vehicle could come along and pull them out. Alexco drilling was being done by the same company so their foreman was there, as was their safety officer. A big fuss was being made about this, I thought it was because they had a zero alcohol-driving tolerance - all the guys thought they'd be fired. Well, it turns out that they hadn't told us the truth - they'd actually gone over the side of the road down 75 feet and ended up on a ledge. If they'd gone over the ledge, they'd have been dead. It was a 200 m drop to more rocks below. They were so lucky! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of that.

But this is a very wet camp. Booze, booze, booze, all the time, all over the place. I hope when we do the winter camp it's a dry one. Oh, they've done their work well and on time, etc., but there's something wrong with all this drinking and partying in these remote areas.
