@Mame,
Absolutely wonderful pictures and what an awesome landscape, enjoyed them thoroughly and looking forward to the next bunch.
btw, you're not a bad looker yourself at 30.
Love the drama!
More stories, more pictures!
(Good looking bunch, but no Mame there I don't think.
Is there? I don't recognize you if there is).
No, I'm not in there... I'm behind the camera.
Here's downtown Whitehorse...
And there are strange people everywhere, it seems. This is a guy wearing a bra, a thong, lipstick, and women's shoes.
@Mame,
Wow!!!!! That's lovely.
I hope you have the best time.
How did you know about the thong?
Looking forward to more of yuk yuk yuk yuk Yukon.
Did you remember to bring the sardines?
Well, we're here, in paradise. For some reason my camera is showing red up the middle of the pictures so I'll see if any are decent. We are on a lake, Halfway Lake, in fact, and it's gorgeous. We are 7 in camp, 8 tomorrow for 2 weeks, then back to 7 (including me). The satellite guys arrive tonight so tomorrow we will have our own dish - that means faster internet and our own phone number.
The drillers are really nice guys - typical in terms of food, but you can't win 'em all. So far they've liked everything I've made. One of them, Kevin, was telling me about the cook in his camp last year - the guy and his girlfriend were 1st and 2nd cooks and they wore the same dirty sweat clothes for the whole season and didn't wash their hair. He hates canned food, but that's all he ate because he wouldn't touch what they cooked. We have two drillers - Colin (day shift) and Kevin (nights) and two helpers - Bruce (day) and Dennis (night). Tyler, who's splitting the core, and Joanna, the geo. Max, a field assistant, is coming tomorrow with our food and staying a couple of weeks to fill in some time before another job.
So far we've had spicy chicken, hot Italian sausage lasagne, steaks, beer can chicken, spinach pie (spanikopita), and tonight we're having a baked ham. Then it's something with ground beef, then chicken dijon or chicken chipotle.
We also have two dogs in camp, Copper and Ruby - they're Alaskan huskies and Joanna takes them with her during the day. The lodge owner, Alfred, has two rottweiler-crosses, Sam and Sadie (mother and son). All the dogs get along and are really nice-tempered. Plus beautiful. I'll post some pics later. Right now the night drillers have arrived and want some FOOD.
So where are you up to now, Mame? Any news?
@McTag,
She's probably very busy soaking up admiration Mac.
There are a lot of men where she is and a lady of Mame's qualities is like a precious stone glistening among the pebbles in a rushing stream of pure meltwater in such circumstances.
That thought had occurred to me too.
Actually, she just lost a very close friend. She's probably not up to chatting
and kidding around.
@CalamityJane,
I'm sorry hear of that. Certainly understandable.
In the meantime, I'm doing a bit of catch-up on this thread. This is the first time I've seen all the great preceding photos. Thanks so much for posting them, Mame! The downtown Whitehorse ones are particularily interesting. I see that they've kept, and fixed up, the heritage buildings. It gives it quite a quaint look to the area.
Looking forward to more posts on this sometime. Hope you will be okay.
@CalamityJane,
I'm very sorry to hear that. Mame is a delightful person - no meanness, spite or anger in her at all. I wish her well.
@ossobuco,
Thinking of you Mame, wishing you better days ahead.
Yo, Mame!
Missing you, missing reading your lovely reports, and hoping you are well.
Do humans have to leave the Yukon in wintertime?
@Mame,
Hi Mame. Noticed that you haven't posted in this thread since July.
What's the story? Is your stint over in the Yukon and you're back in Alberta now?
Like McTag, I miss your reports.
Mame will return when she is ready.
I don't know anything at all about what Mame is dealing with.
I'm a believer in Mame, but she isn't impervious as none of us are, feisty wonderful bitch that she is.
I'll wish Mame comfort and hope to see her soon.
