@ossobuco,
Thank you, folks.

To answer Deb, yes, cataract surgery for my right eye, though not quite the usual scenario due to circumstances in those threads. There will be a retinal surgeon on call.
The second surgery on a separate date from the first is to shorten the ligament that ties the lid to the muscle that raises it, for the left eye.

BBB, my ophthamologist is fine with my driving.

@ossobuco,
this is distressing news for me as you can imagine.
I guess I was lucky, mine(cataracts) came on so fast I didn't even get a chance to post about them. Today my left eye finally stopped hurting after Thursday's surgery and I can see better than I ever could before I was thirty.
I'm not the least worried for you Osso about the cataract surgery...it's a breeze...but the pigmentosa. I don't know
anyway, enough about me...I'm standing by if you have any questions...or if you don't...you mean a lot to me

@panzade,
Hey, Panz, you mean a lot to me too. It was a simple cataract surgery that went awry, indeed not a breeze, maybe or maybe not - opinions differ - because of my, er, flabby zonules with the retinitis pigmentosa. Those are the bands that keep the eye lens in place. That first one turned into a long surgery, as was the second, the emergency surgery by the retinal specialist.

My retinitis is sort of a steady state system, and according to my sequence of ophthamologists, not progressing since it was first diagnosed in the late eighties, and I'd had it at least back into childhood. But I have glaucoma in the bad left eye after that first surgery, and that is progressing.

Anyway, I totally sympathize with you about all you expressed, including the money problems, the dependence business, well.. all of it. Thank you for standing by, and I'll stand by you too.

@ossobuco,
One good thing from all this is... that vision is a joy, the world holds so much beauty. When vision works anew, the pleasure of seeing is nearly indescribable.

Words to hold on to.

I wish I had anything helpful to say. But for now, I'll have to settle for crossing my fingers for you.

@Thomas,
Hey, Tomaso, your very existence is helpful, not to get mushy. Keep on treking.

@ossobuco,
Oh, I'm not mushy at all. To be perfectly honest, all I care about is your pizza. Would you be able to make it for me even if you're blind? If so, I'm not worried about your eyes.

@Thomas,
Of course I could. It might be peculiar pizza though. Pizza with tootsie rolls instead of sausages, for example.

Serious and scary stuff. This is what I hate about our healthcare system - no safety net. I hope it somehow has a happy ending. Maybe Dys will serve you some iced tea and Little Debbie cakes during recovery.

@Green Witch,
Yeah, that's part of it, Green Witch. The cataract isn't progressing all that rapidly and it isn't mandatory to have the surgery this year, except of course the right eye's vision will only get worse with time until the cataract is out. However, I've just recently been putting dollars into a medicare supplement plan and don't expect to be able to keep that up - so, the time is right to act.

Adds to all - I don't mean to keep posting on this all the time until the surgery, as I will bore even myself - but to keep it as a drop-in space.
