@CalamityJane,
All right, I promise.

The trick with lefty is that when they do visual field screening on me, they prop the left lid up with tape - and the surgery won't fix that screening result (which has been essentially the same since 1988, thank goodness - the rp not getting rampantly worse). But in daily life the lid is down a fair amount of the time and it does affect peripheral vision, obviously - I would think, for the time it is down (it is difficult for me to raise it far or keep it up far myself). Will talk with the new surgeon on how medicare tends to rule on that. So let's just say there is new hope on the matter.

@ossobuco,
Sorry this thread title is so ME ME shouting.

I met two people with major eye stuff on my trip, both in their late fifties, both with unusual and scary conditions I never heard of (I'll post on those once I ferret them out online), those among my old friends - my own posts are just a personal catalog.

Anyway, once I cottoned on to what my surgeon had told me before and I hadn't fully processed, re the warm compresses, etc. re hydrating my eyes - today I did that a few times and things are much better.

If anyone wonders, I asked him if I should drink more water, and he said that wasn't likely related. I might, some.

@ossobuco,
Here's a website that may have some new info for you on dry eye syndrome and the causes/treatments.

http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/dryeye.htm

Also, while at Walmart this afternoon getting some photos copied, I noticed they have humidifiers on sale. Would one of those be beneficial for your eyes by adding moisture to the air in your house?

I think the price on the one I noticed in the aisle was about $38. I use a humidifier in my bedroom at night to help me survive the extremely dry heat that gets pumped into the room from the furnace. It pumps out about 4 gallons of water into the air every night and keeps me from having nose bleeds, cracked lips and wheezing lungs.

Here's the page of humidifiers from their website if you want to look at them. (I know, Walmart sucks.)

@Butrflynet,
Me, I'm thinking more water in my bod during the day - but also get the doc's point that that isn't relevant in this circumstance.
I'm not dismissing a humidifier, but also not grabbing on to it.
With my two eyes, one is just fine, except for harboring a cataract that will get worse if left in place, soon to be gone, assuming the surgery next Tuesday perks along. It's the 4x surgical mess eye that is dry, producing wild glare and subsequent tears. I had been guessing the eye irrigation system (hah, I know irrigation design) has been compromised. But I was dead wrong about the clogged duct idea.

Can't remember if I posted this but he said it was the breakdown and separation of tearing (presumably leaving unwashed space patches) that caused irritation (or some words like that).

I've shot a few drops of non prescription but hydrating drops today (prescription eye drops of other sorts - I once paid $130. per prescription for a bunch of years, nearly killed me financially, though they were about more than hydration) and done the compress maneuver four times, and things are better.

Meantime, Brooks grocery store has some moistening eyedrops for $2.99. I'll try them. From my old science view, all I need is sterile saline.

Not that I never did all that before, but apparently I never got ahead of the dryness thing.

Today I woke up sneezing my brains out my nose.

What?

No, not a cold!!

After a half a box of tissues and some part of a toilet paper roll, I call the surgical scheduler to find out about their take on colds. Turns out it is: no fever and no coughing, it's a go ahead.

This is also possible allergy, given my history, as I've had fierce one day 'colds for sure' here in Abq in the past, that I take to be related to what is floating around in the air.

I checked Accuweather and this is a low allergen time. But.. I've memories of sneezeramas in cold months here before.

So far I've had one and a half Benedryl and am much better. We'll see - I do want to get this surgery on the books and out.

Adds, no flu symptoms, aches or pains - in contrast to farmerman.

@ossobuco,
Hopefully it's just an allergy. The Mr and I both had horrible reactions to a small yellow flowered plant when we were in New Mexico (pollen everywhere). Granted that was late October, but who knows, maybe it's still hanging around.

@Tai Chi,
Late october and now are not so far apart. It feels like weirdo allergy - no other body symptoms. Let me not be coughing on Monday night, or I and the staff will be pissy.

@ossobuco,
Posting now and fine, may fine prevail. I'll just worry a bit about some sneeze god I'd failed to toss tokens to.

Well, "all I need is sterile saline" is not true - I've researched much more about drops and will use the more expensive ones the doc listed, by gum.

Meantime, vision in lefty has improved - glare lessened and I can see the computer screen better. Hallelujah.

Time to distract myself, one more day.

Oh, and the "cold" last 2.5 days. Glad it's disappeared, or I hope it has.
