Saw elsewhere that some are suggesting a labradoodle due to one of the girls having allergies. I looked them up... uh, not so stately or attractive, but that's just my opinion.
Others have voiced strongly that it would speak loudly (in many ways) for the presidential family to select a pound puppy and not go for the purebred.
Any suggestions of what breed or mix would seem to best fit the new First Family? What breed or mix would speak to the country? Other world leaders? The temperment of the Obama campaign and White House agenda?
(Not likely to sway the girls choice, but might be fun to speculate and have fun with suggestions)
@squinney,
Don't know much about breeds, but I'm thinking something big but easy going like a lab. And a pound puppy would be just too sweet. What's a labradoodle?
@FreeDuck,
Golden Retriever. They always seem to smile. Very telegenic.
@squinney,
I agree with the pound pup...
for the Palin kids....pit bull...they could put lipstick on it.
@squinney,
I love labradoodles!!!! I really wanted one when I researched them thoroughly a while ago and gave up just 'cause they're super expensive. They were bred to be service animals for people with allergies -- smart, social, calm, all kinds of good things.
Lookit this face:
That said, I like the idea of a pound puppy or young dog...
@sozobe,
Best dog for young kids is the Golden Retriever. If the kids were older I'd say a pure-bred miniature Poodle. Smart as hell and great little lovers.
That's my baby...

there's a visual I didn't need....
@Phoenix32890,
Perfect - they can adopt all those greyhounds from Mass seeing there is no more grey hound racing per our ballet question. That would solve a couple of problems!
@squinney,
Michelle Obama has mentioned in a couple of interviews that it would be a pound puppy.
@ehBeth,
What's a pound puppy? Do North Americans buy puppies by the pound, as a delicacy?

Of course! What do you think we use in our Leberkäse, horse?
@Thomas,
A pound puppy would be a dog at the dog pound or animal shelter - one without a home - usually, but not always these are mutts rather than pure breeds.
@ehBeth,
Good then she could get a grey hound, my understanding is there will soon be hundreds in shelters in Mass. - once they all receive their unemployment papers.
Quite honestly - I am worried about the potential for the large amounts of greyhounds in the coming year as a result. I would guess that many will end up being put down.
@Linkat,
How stupid has our voting public become? Let's ban dog racing! Yeah, that's a great use of our electoral resources. What can we ban next?
How about we ban dumbass voters? Hmmm?
@cjhsa,
You wouldn't believe how much these was debated - in commercials and so forth. It was a big deal in our state.
@squinney,
A CAT.
Seal point Siamese would be my suggestion.
Actually...TWO cats...they're way more fun.
