It's actually the Gov'ner's office at the Mass State House.

Just stopping by to wish everyone on the east coast good luck with this storm.

Up here in New Jersey, we usually just get the remnants of storms -- but one of the possible landfalls is on our beaches.

Nancy and I wish you all the best -- wherever you are and wherever this thing decides to make landfall. Our thoughts are with you.

And we are prepared to batten down the hatches on our place.

There's a storm coming in from the prairies that is supposed to reach us just as the tail end of Isabel arrives. They've been telling us to put garden furniture etc away, so that no one is injured. It is a bit weird getting hurricane-handling advice so far from the coast. But I'll be out putting stuff away in the yard. Wouldn't want someone impaled on an umbrella or something.

Well, this isn't looking good at all. Isabel is now a mere category 2 (100 mph winds) and with lots and lots of rain, hitting NC and then coming pretty much directly inland.
Sugar (9/14 @ 6:23 pm) referenced a site that shows the path. Take a look at it if you are interested.
We are right on the solid line of the in-land trajectory.
All of the motel rooms in my town, 150 miles from the coast, are reportedly filled tonight with folks who decided to leave the eastern shore. Perhaps they should have gone further west.

I've had some scary situations in my life (VN, for example). What freaks me out is the waiting.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If this storm peters out, I'll be shown to be a complete idiot, which would be an upggrade from my last ranking as a "total idiot."

Well, atleast the hurricane is down grading as it moves along which is a good thing. Hang in there and be safe.

Are you waiting it out alone or with family, John? If alone, find some folks to wait with, that will make it a little easier.

As for the idiot stuff, there are lots and lots of victims of Hugo who wished they had been idiots and made better preparations/evacuated. I don't view it as idiotic at all. I view it as being responsible and accountable for your own survival.

Hang in there. If you plan to be online for as long as you're able and want company, we're here for you.

Good evening: It strikes me as ironic that yesterday and today have just been two of the most beautiful early fall days one could imagine.
Glorious weather for the moment.
I'm feeling better than I felt yesterday and thank you for your concern. The folks on the coast of NC, VA and MD are where we should focus right now. Many people have wisely left. Universities, such as William & Mary, have told their students to get out of town.

We're going to shut down the house tomorrow morning, I reckon. It's been our home since 1976 but not where you would want to be in a hurricane.
I own a three-story brick, steel and concrete building downtown, with no big plate glass windows.
We've loaded some camping gear, like air-mattresses, into the van. We're going there. I've got keys and permission from tenants to sleep in their spaces so, for example, my employee David and his extremely pregnant wife can be 30 miles closer to the hospital.

I wanted to talk to y'all about the changing cloud formations today. Pretty amazing. Maybe later.
Thanks and good luck to the coasters. -rjb-

If you all don't get a chance to get back online while the brunt of the storm hits, please be sure to check in and let us know all is well as soon as you are able after Isabel passes by.

Would love to have one of you writer types paint us a verbal picture of the storm as it approaches, hits and fades away. Tell us about the changing views, smells and sounds. Take that on as an assignment to keep yourself occupied if you wish. Smile

This is incredible living this storm vicariously on the Internet.

I second what Butflynet said to realjohnboy: Better to be safe than sorry -- and let anyone say whatever he heck they want.

Stay safe. Let us know what is happening.

Bear:

Lemons from lemons. Free pool tops.

I love it!

Take care, all you coastal types. I sure wish I hadn't seen Chincoteague on that list. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Definitely the place I've seen the most beautiful sunrises. I hope the ponies will be ok.

We are expecting sustained 40 to 50 MPH winds in Raleigh today. The timing is good. i can get to the gym now, take my equipment to Holiday Inn and set up so no matter what happens they have to pay me. then I can be home from say 1 to 5 when we supposedly will get the brunt of the action to be with and comfort my cubs, then when things calm down I can ride out to the Holiday Inn and do my show in front of a packed house because no one can get to the airport to fly out. I'll put out a tip jar and make enough extra money to get that tattoo I've been wanting.

And hopefully that new pool liner, Frank.

My jet ski is a 1996 Sea Doo GTX. It has 110 horses and goes at a nice 55 mph clip, but now they make one that will do seventy. Think I'll put the ski under this really big pine at the end of our driveway.

On a serious note, if any of you are still close to the coast, this would be a good time to HEAD WEST!!!!!! Be careful.
