@Joe Nation,
A quick note on the clam sauce - I found the recipe thread I mentioned.
http://able2know.org/topic/81749-1
(The bit at the end about microwaving bowls is because I like the bowls to be hot to start with, so they don't cool down the pasta.)

@Joe Nation,
What a great idea! I just saw this thread for the first time. I have GAINED 10 lbs. in the last month. There were a number of problems, like a bacterial infection that would not quit, some lousy health goings on with both Mr. P. and me, a death in the family, abominably hot and muggy weather, and a shot in my spine by my pain doctor.

I offer this preamble as a rationale (?) for my not doing my usual walks. I had gotten into the habit of walking 3-4 miles just about every other day. That seemed to be the answer to controlling my weight.

In addition, I have a friend who is 77 years old, a vegetarian, and has the body of a 16 year old. She had given me a book to read, and the basic premise is that one eats nothing but fruit before noon, has no milk products, and does not eat any prepared stuff. I had used that plan, and lost 10 lbs., but put the weight right back on, when I reverted to my usual eating habits, with no exercise.

Today I decided that I am ready to start walking again, using a modified version of my friend's diet. I have no intention of going vegetarian, although I will cut down on meat products. I had a peach, 2 Mandarin oranges, and a glass of Crystal Light (ok, the artificial sweetener is not so great) for breakfast.

Tomorrow morning I will report in the manner described by Joe.

For the record, I am a bit nervous about putting my weight down in print. But since all of you folks have had the guts to do it.............................

@Phoenix32890,
Hi, Ms. P!
About time for me to record my weight again, but I'm not really watching it so much as looking at what it is I do eat. Wrong time of day, so I'll do it tomorrow.

Yesterday,

Coffee, 1/2 tsp sugar
Second cup, cold by then, poured over ice.

Grilled cheese sandwich (mozzarella, cheddar, tinned sliced olives on 2 slices cracked wheat sourdough.

Three tomatoes from the garden, not small, but not large either. Terrific, so beats the store tamaedas.

Ginger ale/not diet/ice x 2

Cheapo white wine on ice. Bletch.

Large salad - red lettuce, romaine lettuce, dozens grape tomatoes sliced in half, two red potatoes boiled and sliced, some skin left on, maybe a half inch of a thin sliced spanish medium onion, 1 scallion chopped, 2 stalks of celery sliced, two garlic cloves minced, some jarred italian spice mix, 6 sicilian olives sliced, olive oil, red wine vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt, many turns of the pepper mill.
OK, ate half of that.

More cheapo white wine on ice - 2 smallish glasses. A little less bletching, used to it now.

little bowl of raw almonds and some chocolate chips, ate all of them, guessing 25 almonds, 10 chips.

Water on ice for reading in bed.

OK, OK, OK!
It's a type of Chinese pastry. It's very light and has a kind of whipped cream
filling down the middle and coconut sprinkles on the outside. The Lovely Bride
buys them at a bakery in Boston's Chinatown.
