Second attempt at lunch -

My soup is a ton of veggies cooked into mush. Then put into the food processor with a clove of fresh garlic, about 2 tablespoons of garlic salt, fresh basil + cilantro , 2 cans of sweet corn added after the food processor..and 1/2 a package of creme cheese.
Makes almost a gallon of soup. REALLLY good.

Wine.

Rejoining... My first post indicated 1/184. We didn't have scales so that was a guess based on recent last Dr. appointment back then.

Bought a scale. Bear and I started this past Tuesday (Jan 6) on the Cabbage Soup 7 Day Diet which is a kick start / motivational and cleansing/detox kinda diet. Tuesday weighed in that morning to start.191.2.

Tue: (weight 191.2) Cabbage soup (lotsa veggies in it. You can google Cabbage Soup 7 Day Diet for the recipe) + 1 can unsweet pineapple, lotsa water, Cabbage soup, cabbage soup.

Wed: (weight 189.4) Cabbage Soup, water with apple cider vinegar, broccoli, Cabbage Soup, water, Cabbage soup... added hot sauce + baked potato with 1 tbs butter, salt and pepper, mixed green salad with balsamic vinegar for dinner. A potato never tasted so good! (cheated and ate a fortune cookie around lunch time.)
.

Thur: (weight 186.3) Cabbage soup, water, 1 can pineapple, 1 bag (4 cups?) steamed broccoli with only garlic salt, water w/ apple cider vinegar, If I see another friggin' bowl of cabbage soup I'm gonna throw up.)

Fri: (weight 184.4) Can't even think about making cabbage soup. Thank god today is banana and skim milk day. 6 banana's, 1/2 gallon skim milk, 3 bites of cabbage soup. (gag) Stayed full, not tempted to cheat at all. Lotasa water. Some with apple cider vinegar.

Sat: (weight 183.2) Off the diet. Today was supposed to be add some meat day, but Bear and I couldn't do another day of cabbage soup no matter how much meat we could have with it. One serving apple cinnemon oatmeal made with water, water w/ apple cider vinegar for breakfast. 1 banana before going into Whole Foods for hamburger, Farm Bread. Came home and fixed 1/2 pound plain 90% lean hamburger with slice of onion, 20 Utz kettle cooked potato chips (stuffed!) Forced myself to eat a bowl of mixed greens - no dressing along with 1 slice of Farm Bread and 8 oz. red wine. Talked to sis... Got off the phone and tore into a bag of Turtle Chex Mix. (Yikes! - Guilt! Shame!)

Sun: (weight 184.4) Feeling better about my late night cheat. Back to sensible eating today.

8/184.4 goal of being at least 145 by May

@shewolfnm,
8 pounds in 5 days.

If you are used to eating veggies it really is agreat way to kick start and stay motivated. Went from size 18 Tuesday to fitting into all my 16's on Friday. Only thing I did besides the diet was walk about half a mile per day.

One day I was so full of energy I had to call Bear and ask him to meet me for a walk around the neighborhood. I had to leave the Clubhouse open, so we walked where I could still see if anyone was coming / going. Luckily, the neighborhood is built for walking.

@squinney,
I love veggies.
In fact, I eat veggies so often, i forget meat or anything else. It isnt like I dont WANT meat.. I just love veggies
What keeps me pudgy are sweets and oils.

I could do veggie soup. No problem.

@shewolfnm,
Someone that knows more about all this can correct me, but I think the idea is to "shock" your body. You have to change up foods (good kinds) and kinds/ levels of exercise. Your body hits a plateu because it says "Oh, okay, so this is how I'm gonna live" and adjusts to that to maintain.

Believe me, a half mile walk was a shock to my system!

@squinney,
I did the diet with squinney. My weight loss is a little slower because I don't have as much to lose. I'm not being smarmy here.... I think I lost about a half pound less than squinney. I was an exercise madman and then let myself go so I gained from 148 to 166. I'm now back to 158 so I have 10 lbs. to go. I'd ideally like to weigh 140. I'm back to the gym and with muscle memory should tone back up pretty quickly.

If you go to livestrong.com it is a free website that allows you to track your calories and nutritional content daily. Seeing it is helpful. That soup got old after a few days though I'll tell you that. If you're careful though you can eat well for little calories.

I had a three egg scramble with 2 tablespoons of pepper onion mix, a bowl of oatmeal and two cups of coffee w/ skim milk and splenda for breakfast which really filled me up nicely. 334 calories, practically no carbs or fat and 35 grams of protein. Protein is VERY important and can't be overlooked. Also eating 5 times a day to keep your metabolic rate up... and making your snacks as protein rich as possible.

No idea of my weight, which would involve peeling off these old stretch peddle pushers, etc. Up from starter weight of 154 but not too badly, she says confidently while holding breath.

Yesterday -

coffee x 2, 1 tsp sugar total

tuna and mayo on a toasted pan bigio slice

2 glasses cherry apple juice diluted

made an extremely thin crusted small pizza, say an ovoid of 7 x 11 inches, with bits of ital fontina and monterey jack cheese, small dollops of sweet red pepper garlic salsa, small dollops of parsley/basil/garlic/parm pesto, and a few slices of Dietz & Watson mortadella, and a further bunch of cut up garlic clove - she says, wafting. Sigh. Delicious. I ate 2/3 of it.

I guess I should explain. I don't actually like pizza thick with cheese and this and that. Don't even mention tomato paste. My memorable first pizza in italy, at a bowling alley (another story) outside of Florence, involved a pizza with so little cheese that the mushrooms (the only other item) moved across the pizza if you lifted it wrong. My second pizza, in Rome's campo dei fiori, had only wurstel on it, some kind of very thin deli meat with fat bubbles in it that melted in the baking, so that it was like looking at a loose lace.. with a beer. At first appalled, my mad italophilia took over and I started to shun pizza with a lot of stuff. Thus my third loved pizza, the one at piazza della pace, with only thin islands of mozzarella, a little gorgonzola, and some walnuts, oh, and chilled white wine.

My pizzas are often eh! making, since I usually play with what is in the refrigerator - but this last one was good.

Glass of red.

@George,
I think I'm most like George here, a complete hedonist -- but he exercises much more.

On that, the knee twig and back spasmazool are almost gone. Back to looking at air-maxes. I can't really afford new shoes, but money flows out the door in any case. We'll see.

Squinney and Bear, on fast diets, I think they're dumb and could research data to defend my pov. But.. I won't belabor it, past that I think the cabbage soup diet is a sure way to learn to despise cabbage or even vegetable soup.

If you have lots to lose, I'd be looking at what Mac11 and Jespah have been doing, both very well. But if it's not a great amount of pounds, I'd be looking at gaining new and healthier food interests with a little room for occasional treats. If done right, what becomes a treat becomes better for you.

What would be a shock to most people's systems would be for the person to eat less and exercise more for two weeks. There would be weight loss and the added benefit of not hating the sight of a cabbage.
Personally, I have to to have different things to eat everyday.
AND, because I report my intake here, I am less likely to slide in a bag of bad or a big slice of doh!

Breakfast: bagel, tea, grapefruit
Lunch: the rest of the chicken soup
Snack: Martini and three cheese slices during the game. (They lost)
Dinner: SIlver tip sirloin on toast wheat bread spread with roasted garlic and cabbage sprouts.

@Joe Nation,
Go Joe! Go Joe!

Yesterday:
Breakfast: Bread, whole wheat, 2 slices
Jam, 1 tbsp
Cottage ch and veg omelet, 1 serving
1 c mixed fruit

Lunch: Couscous, 1 cup, cooked
Chicken Breast, no skin, 4 ounces
Smart Balance Buttery Spread, 1 tbsp
Broccoli, fresh, 1 cup, chopped
Sneaky Apple Onion Salad, 1 serving

Dinner: Skim Milk, 1 cup
14 oz mixed greens salad
Artichoke and veg pizza (1/4 pie)

Snack: Fruit Salad, 1 cup
Stonyfield Farm Fat Free chocolate, 6 oz

CALORIES 1634 CARBS 264 g FAT38 g PROTEIN 106 g Sodium 1636 mg

I've weighed myself but am going to my doctor so I'll go with whatever she says. My scale says 229.6, which is 6.0 lbs down from last week but keep in mind last week I weighed in at late afternoon after 2 meals and 1/2 of the water I was going to drink that day. I suspect the # is closer to 4.0 lbs. off. Still nice but not as spectacular.

And I agree with Joe. The kickstart part of diets is usually water loss. My first week, I lost 5.4 lbs and there wasn't a cabbage leaf in sight.
