Really pigged out yesterday, but I just gained two pounds. I'll probably work that off by next weekend.

@JPB,
early morning - coffee (2.0 large mugs), cranwater with 1Tbs ground flax seed.
breakfast - grapefruit, 2 cups chili, supps, water
snack - 2 flatbread crackers with 2Tbs green olive tapenade
lunch - ham, pretzel thins
dinner - cassoulet-type stew of ham, beans, and swiss chard (this finishes up the last of the Christmas ham)
snacks -- 2 caramels, 1/3 cup mixed nuts
alcohol - 1 5oz glass white wine
exercise - 200 marching jacks

Today is day 1 of a 3 day detox/cleanse. It's Level 1 of a 3 Level elimination diet. I'm going to do the first 3 days and then decide whether to do Phase 2 for another 3 days. Level 1 eliminates:

alcohol
packaged and processed foods
caffeine (I won't be able to completely eliminate caffeine)
chocolate and cocoa
condiments: ketchup, relish, chutney, bbq, teriyaki, and soy sauces
fats: shortening, margarine, processed oils
grains: wheat, spelt, barley, kamut, rye, triticale, corn
juices that are not fresh or raw
peanuts
processed meats: canned meats, cold cuts, bacon, sausage
pork
salt, in excess
shellfish
soy and soybean products: tofu, tempeh, soy sauce, etc.
soft drinks
sweeteners: refined sugar/white sugar (sucrose), brown sugar, raw sugar, evaporated cane juice, high-fructose corn syrup, honey, maple syrup, barley malt.

If I go on to Level 2 then I would eliminate:

beef and veal
Dairy, including butter
mayo and mayo-like spreads
nightshade vegetables: tomatoes, eggplant, peppers
nuts and seeds
salad dressings, except pure oils and vinegar or lemon juice

For the really committed there's a Level 3:

Citrus fruits (other than lemon juice)
egg yolks
High GI fruits: bananas dates, figs, grapes, pineapple, raisins, watermelon
vinegars
mustards

Level 1 really isn't that big of a hurdle. Brown rice, beans, and potatoes work throughout, as do poultry and fish. My problem starts with level 2 since I tend to live on dairy, nuts, and nightshade vegetables.

I've done this cleanse (and other ones) periodically in the past. The energy boost is obvious after 2-3 days. They're recommend every 3-6 months by those who recommend such things.

Day 1 of Level 1 begins now (I'm down to 1.5 cups coffee this morning, working my way down to 1 or less).

Okay. Hello.
Hello, 2010.
I'm going to count the days of this year as the 'days' for me and give full blown totals on occassion. I was not very disciplined on vacation (what a surprise!) and , despite running every day, or almost every day, I gained a total of 12 pounds. That remarkably pathetic, isn't it? Alright, that enough editorializing. Today is Day Four and two of those pounds are gone.

Here's to all of us.
May this be the year we become even better than we are now.

Yesterday
B: Grapefruit, toast, coffee black
L: Clam Chowder, Tea
D: Roast Chicken legs and thighs, Bagel, glass of wine, some cheese
Day Four/188.00
/-11.1 since beginning this thread/-78 since coming to my senses

@Joe Nation,
Ya ever go back and read the very first post on this thread?

I did the other day.

Realized that we're not going back to that place. I'm not where I want to be (in soooo many ways), but the overall life trendline is headed in the right direction - and you've helped.

A lot of thanks go to you.
