Hillary Clinton will not be Obama's vice president for a very good legal reason. Bill Clinton cannot survive the required vetting process because of iffy contributions to his library.

Obama seriously needs to grow a set of balls. The winner does not go to the losers turf for an after battle pow-wow, it needed to be done on his.

hawkeye, Excellent point; the loser should be going to the winners place to meet. However, we know that Obama is another kind of individual running for the presidency of this country, and he continues to send the kind of message to the public that Washington will be different under him. He doesn't worry about one-upmanship.

And he's got plenty balls, otherwise he wouldn't be where he is today. His daddy didn't snare it for him, he didn't marry into it, when everyone told him no, you can't have it, what did he do? He reached out and he took it. That's balls.

That's a lot more than balls. He's got somet'n that very few men in politics have today; karizma.

It wasn't at her house, it was at Dianne Feinstein's -- but regardless I agree that it was a good gesture and also perhaps tactically important (see below).

More details:

First Read:

Quote:
*** Sur-prise! The big news today, of course, is Obama's secret meeting last night with Clinton. It began when Obama's traveling press discovered that Obama wasn't on the flight back to Chicago. Then the media raced to Clinton's Washington home, only to find out that the two met at Sen. Dianne Feinstein's house in DC. It was very important that Obama was able to get this done before Clinton speaks tomorrow; it might have a positive influence on what she says, assuming the meeting went well. Then again, who knows -- remember that Obama-Elizabeth Edwards meeting didn't go well (or so legend claims). The Obama and Clinton campaigns released this joint statement: "Senator Clinton and Senator Obama met tonight and had a productive discussion about the important work that needs to be done to succeed in November." The press corps might be mad the meeting was done in such a cloak-and-dagger way. But what choice do we give these candidates when we're staking out so many locations of both candidates at this point?

Ambinder:

Quote:
There was a meeting. It was not at Hillary Clinton's house. (I'm betting it was at Jim Johnson's Georgetown condo.) Staff worked out the schedules. Obama wanted to talk about bringing the party together.

1. Who asked for the meeting? Barack Obama.
2. Which side leaked the existence of the meeting? Unknown.. After originally refusing to answer reporters questions, the campaign then confirmed that there was a meeting but said they would never divulge the details; then they divulged the details.
3. Which side speaks first about the content of the meeting? Not clear.
4. When was the invitation proffered? Sunday and Monday
5. Did the Obama campaign insist on meeting Clinton before she speaks publicly? Not clear.
6. How angry is the Obama press corps? A little bit.
7. How much (or little) does the Obama press team care about the feelings about the Obama press corps? They say they did not intend to mislead the press corps.
8. Was there internal disagreement about the decision to ditch the press corps? Kind of an irrelevant question.
