The pillow against your stomach is the best idea ever for that kind of surgery, especially if you have pets that like to jump on your lap. Ouch!
I didn't let go of my pillow for almost a week.
I hope you can go on your date, but please do try to be objective. Your health is far more important and if the guy is reasonable, he won't want you to come unless your feeling fine.
