God damn that's great news Rev. Wright on Bill Moyers. At least Moyers wont cut Wright's sentences in half. As Sammy Davis used to say on Laugh In, "here comes the judge".

In 1961, after hearing President Kennedy's challenge to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," Jerimiah Wright gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines. And if that isn't a big enough list of sins, mistakes, and gaffs, the man is married, has four daughters, one son and three grandchildren!

However, since Butrfly went to so much time and trouble to insert other thoughts into the discussion, and at the risk of being accused of evoking Godwin's Law, here is how Adolph Hitler described his own accomplishments:

Quote:
"...I overcame chaos in Germany, restored order, enormously raised production in all fields of our national economy...I succeeded in completely resettling in useful production those 7 million unemployed who so touched our hearts...I have not only politically united the German nation but also rearmed it militarily, and I have further tried to liquidate that Treaty sheet by sheet whose 448 Articles contain the vilest rape that nations and human beings have ever been expected to submit to. I have restored to the Reich the provinces grabbed from us in 1919; I have led millions of deeply unhappy Germans, who have been snatched away from us, back into the Fatherland; I have restored the thousand year old historical unity of German living space; and I have attempted to accomplish all that without shedding blood and without inflicting the sufferings of war on my people or any other. I have accomplished all this, as one who 21 years ago still an unknown worker and soldier of my people, by my own efforts..."

And most of this is actually true.
http://members.tripod.com/~Propagander2/index-15.html

Why do I bring this up? Because we are all a mixture of strengths and shortcomings, virtue and sin, accomplishments and failures. The good can always be taken into account in evaluating who we are and what we are about and may help us receive forgiveness, but it cannot erase the harm we do to others. Some of the world's most destructive people had/have impressive credentials, demonstrated noteworthy virtues, and can claim some impressive accomplishments.

Negatives do not necessarily disqualify anybody for a task, but they, as well as the positives, are fair game for evaluation of a person's qualifications and suitability and we ignore them at our peril.

They aren't "other thoughts," Foxfyre. They are part of the picture drawn from the life of Jerimiah Wright and gives insight to the question that titles this thread.

You have at least one problem with your attempt at terrorizing people with the name Hitler. Wright isn't describing his own accomplishments, he rarely does.

I didn't attempt to terrorize anybody and for anybody not completely tunnel visioned or blinded to anything but their own ideological prejudices, he or she would have seen that as an illustration for my remarks and not as a comparison to Jeremiah Wright. I even included an implied disclaimer related to Godwin's Law that you conveniently ignored.

You may believe that Jeremiah Wright is a figure larger than life and a terrific role model for Barack Obama and his children and above reproach. I, in a denomination closely associated with his, consider him to be an embarrassment, a terrible role model for children and/or people of color, and not somebody that anybody should aspire to admire or emulate. That takes nothing away from his accomplishments or credentials or whatever virtues he possesses that may be considerable. I believe he is harming people and I do not think that his possible influence on Barack Obama's perspectives, thinking, or perceptions should be ignored.

So sue me.

(I will accept that you don't have any 'thoughts' on the matter, however, since you say so, and will assume you were just parroting the standard Democratic damage control mantra.)

Foxfyre's defense of her bitter and racist comparison merely serves to dig the hole she created for herself deeper. I truly doubt that even Foxfyre believes Buterfly believes "Jeremiah Wright is a figure larger than life and a terrific role model for Barack Obama and his children and above reproach. " So now we can add inellectual dishonesty to her list of sins.

Then she goes on yet another tiresome, racist wingnut Sean Hannity scripted attempt to demonize Wright for the umpteenth time, then laughingly she tries to dismiss Buterfly's anticipated retort as "parroting
Democratic damage control mantra. "

I would like to remind Ms Foxfyre that there is no damage to control except in the racist delusional minds of Sean Hannity and his mental clones.

When the Wright thing was at it's height; I didn't think it was irelevent either; however; I listened to his speech and I believed what he said (verses what you say he said)and I accepted what he said. The reason I bring up the polls was merely to point out that a lot of people accepted Obama's explanation of the Wright thing after his speech about it.

Obama's "Wright problems" haven't yet begun. Questions about the Obama/Wright relationship are just one of a growing number of targets that will take fire during the general election... if the Democrats make him their nominee.

Rev. Wright's racial bigotry isn't going to go away. You can list all of his sermons in a wide variety of venues. You can list all of the publications where Rev. Wright has something to say, but only the full text... unedited and unvarnished are meaningful. Whether his words are parsed by friend or foe, the totality of his views and values will remain suspect. Of those who have reacted to the hateful and prejudiced remarks that recently made national headlines after the Clinton campaign brought them to light, some claim that the remarks are atypical, out of context, and "justified". Other's, less in love with the Obama image and more questioning, who have read significant portions of the Rev. Wright's inflammatory comments claim that they are common and can be found sprinkled liberally throughout his thought. Wright's apparent feelings of simpatico for Farrakhan and Islamic terrorist leaders makes one wonder just how deep Wright's prejudices go.

However, it isn't just Wright's racial bigotry that is important. What will be a continuing campaign issue is Obama's failure to recognize the hatred and racism in 20 years. Even today, Obama only seeks to "disassociate himself with certain statements" and is an apologist for Wright's racism, prejudice and hatred. Our suspicions that Obama is a demagogue who has mastered populist pronouncements and promises, while hiding his true feelings is likely to grow as the campaign continues.

Obama has other "embarrassing" relationships that will be minutely examined and brought to the attention of the voters between now and November. The Clinton campaign has merely turned over a few rocks, and indicated the general vulnerabilities of Obama. Thank you, Hillary.
