As several Dems have said, our best "presence" should be over the horizon. We could train the Iraqi troops outside of Iraq, and then would not be under constant attack.

The Iraqis want us out, and feel, and have illustrated, they can handle those in al-Qaida, more easily than they handled us. The Iraqis hate al-Qaida more than they hate us.

Foreign bases make us vulnerable. For instance, should war break out between the Koreas, our troops would be quickly wiped out. Rumsfeld recognized this and once called for their removal. Reagan quickly pulled our troops out of Lebanon after we suffered a massive loss there. So, are we hurting now because we don't have a base in Lebanon? NOT!!!!

We don't have bases in Israel, which doesn't prevent us from coming to its aid, as we did in the past.

Funny, I haven't noticed anything from either of you two staunch "conservatives" with respect to the Bear Stearns charity event. Could have missed it though.

But I recognize a red herring when I see one, and I bet McCain does too.

Yes, because only people who plan to go bankrupt actually end up bankrupt. All those people in bankruptcy court right now--they planned it that way! What flawless and brilliant logic.

I'm not sure that McCain could recognize his own mother. Another Republican candidate that falls way short of being anywhere near competent enough to be elected president. Not that that will stop nutcase conservatives from voting for him.

Now, how would this be a red herring, you ole foxy you?

Why would you bring up his 90 year old mother? Are you that ignorant of the issues that this is the best you can do? Rolling Eyes

Quote:

Want a Taste of the McCain Presidency? You've Already Had One

Our country is facing two serious crises right now, one foreign -- the disastrous war in Iraq -- and one domestic -- a mismanaged economy on the brink of collapse.

This is obviously why the right track/wrong track polling numbers are at such stunning extremes: 22 percent "satisfied" to 72 percent "dissatisfied" in the latest Pew poll, 19 percent/80 percent in Gallup.

John McCain may not have a clue about what's going on in Iraq, but he's certainly seen those poll numbers. That's why he's suddenly running as fast as he can from the Bush presidency,

...

Much was -- rightly -- made last week of McCain's "McCain Moment" which shone a spotlight on how clueless he is about the region. But given McCain's foreign policy views, it's hard to know whether we should be more afraid when he's confused and clueless or when he's thinking clearly and coherently.

Based on McC's planned spending and tax cuts, one can say that he plans to take out a subprime mortgage on the country.

Tell us how America started the Gulf War by forcing Saddam to invade Kuwait.

America pushed Saddam out and back to Baghdad , and instituted a cease fire with conditions.

These conditions were constantly and flagrantly violated by Saddam over a long period of time, resulting in the present phase of the Gulf War , which included Saddam's removal.

How is this war America's fault? Did we force Saddam to attack his neighbor?

Saddam also wanted to world to think he had WMD, and was so successful in deceiving the intelligence services of the West by his deliberate action, that this was one of the major violations of the cease fire, and thus one of the causes of the resumption of hostilities in the Gulf War. He gambled and lost.

Saddam lied, people died.

Do you understand this?

Real, you need to bone up on history.

Just before Gulf War I, when Saddam was our ally, our ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie, told Saddam that we were not concerned with ME borders. State announced the same thing. We contemplated that Saddam would merely seize some oil fields in Northern Kuwait. Saddam took our advice to mean that we would not be concerned should he take over Kuwait.

Regarding Gulf War II, it was our naked grab for Iraq's oil.

April Glaspie has denied that she evr said that.
I believe her before I believe Saddam Hussein.
The fact that you believe Hussein says something about you.

Then why hasnt any of that oil made its way to the US?
Why has Iraq awarded oil contracts to European and Russian companies, but almost none to US companies?

If we are getting all of Iraqs oil, WHERE IS IT?

More importantly, why are we wasting time and money helping the Iraqis rebuild their infrastruture, schools, hospitals, etc. It would have been so much easier just to seize and defend the oil fields.
