More like, "a black man, who only talks about things related to being black". And one, who at every opportunity, injects race into a discussion.

Geeze Maporsche, I've read a whole lot of Snood's postings. In fact, when I see a new one with his name on it, like this one, I immediately open it up.

Does it make you feel uncomfortable talking about things related to Afro-Americans because I've not felt any of the same disquiet that seems to concern you so?

Snood and I have disagreed on many/most topics and yet I continue to think Snood has a very essential perspective. It's quite impossible for me to have any understanding of the nature of race relations and the associated repercussions for a black/brown/yellow man/woman living in the US of A. I am often glad to here is thoughts whether I agree or not.

Seems to me that Snood was injecting some humor into the discussion with this thread. Does humor = Black Man now?

In fact, Snood used to post quite a bit on the subject of religion, as well, because, apparently, he is a very devout believer. However, things in the S & R forum got really nasty, for which i mostly blame MOAN--but Snood was right in there slinging insults and vituperation with the rest of them. It seems that he, as is the case with many others, found it all too much, and has drifted away from that forum.

He has often spoken out forthrightly on the issue of the war in Iraq. He has frequently posted on a wide variety of political topics, most of which have had nothing to do with race.

Suggesting that Snood is some kind of one trick pony is more an admission of ignorance on the part of the person making the suggestion anything else. I think that Snood often overstates the case when discussing race, but as Dys points out, his perspective is almost unique at this site. We only ever get the point of view of black Americans here when Snood posts, and much less often, when EOE posts. There was an interesting young man who came here a couple of years ago, with novel ideas and novel points of view, and two pages into his first thread, one of our conservative darlings made a comment about "n*gger music," so we haven't seen or heard much from that man since.

There are plenty of contributions here from Snood which have nothing to do with race. Anyone who suggests, however, that race is not a crucial and divisive issue in the contemporary United States is denying the presence of the elephant in the room.

I've been informed by Bear that Clinton supporters are unable to interpret humor on a message board if it is not accompanied by an appropriate emoticon.

( for you, Bear)

Don't always agree with the man, but never felt a twinge talkin with him either.

As a white guy myself, I can only attempt to understand, but I think he speaks from his heart, and that's all I can ask.

Snood is OK by me.

Wow, I thought I was going to be stuck for awhile - just spinning my wheels and trying to figure out why it would hurt my feelings to have someone because of whose postings I don't even like or respect, diss me with the "all you think of is race" smeck.

But before I even got my sulk going good, I looked up to read several posts that seem to express the collective notion that my posts haven't been all race-rabblerousing, and that my perspective isn't unwelcome here.

Wow. ...really, wow - thanks, guys.

Yeah that would have been quite the retort if the posters speaking up for Snood had actually all been Obama supporters.

You mean the club of posters who've won the respect of their fellow posters here over the years? Yeah, be honest, have something worthwhile to say, say it well, and recognize yer fellow posters as decent people even if you disagree with them. That works.

And SNOOD! fits this description? Are we talking about the same person? Have you read his posts?

Yes, for many years now.

He's always honest, for one. He doesnt play games with you. He's also honest enough to criticise his own "side" politically, like now on Wright.

He's definitely got something worthwhile to say, even if I dont always agree with him. And he brings insights that I dont hear from anyone else here -- yes, as a black man, and as a military man, for two. And to the extent that he's got a chip on his shoulder, it's hardly difficult to guess where it came from.

Besides, even though he's got a ferocious temper on him and its no fun to be on the receiving end of that, he's also a mensch about it. He'll just as soon recognize you as just another human being doing your best, and just like he can go after you hard, he can turn around if he discovers he was wrong and openly criticise himself and apologise, even when it's not asked or expected. Like with O'Bill two or three months ago. Not many who can do that. Definitely not here online, on the Politics forum.

Sure, a lot of the to and fro of posts here will be throwaway comments, and they're often of the harsh or snide variety (and you give as good what you get, when it comes to that). But I've also seen many Snood posts that really made me think again about a subject or reflect, and others that said what I'd wanted to say but better.

No.

Arg. Can people just stop accusing each other of being secretly Republican or stooges of the right or whatever, just cause you disagree about something? Fer cryin out loud.

Democratic voters have come from all kinds of places and outlooks, so just cause someone says stuff you think is wrong doesnt mean he must just be a stooge for 'the other side'.

Snood is real. Not right, or wrong, Real.

This is not political, and it's not really black and white.

Thanks Nimh.
