Thanks for the post, Mame....and I did find it interesting!

Sounds like you're living the life of a real pioneer woman... there's hard work and there's also the challenge of living without a lot of modern conveniences.

I'm sure it's also a challenge to do without the modern forms of entertainment too -- like TV and the internet -- but probably reassuring and self-affirming to find out you can live without them! Smile

Mame, you are a very handsome woman- but you've got plenty of men around to tell you that.

Smile

(Can you say that in the colonies? Embarrassed It means very good-looking, much better than pretty!)

Mame, the details are fascinating!

What sort of "baby" is that in the first pic? (Maybe a beaver, but I wouldn't know.)

And what's the wall hanging? A craft project? Take a picture please!

Actually Mame should be named "women of the year" - a true gutsy pioneer,
up and running by 4:40 am, living in a tent in the wilderness in the midst of winter while the rest of us is sleeping in a warm bed.

Yep - Award for "OMGoodGrief- What A Gal!" goes to Mame.

It's a lifetime away from the life I lead - truly inspiring actually. Good for you.

Please keep sending the pics and telling us your stories. It really is fascinating. Smile

McTag - you are very sweet, and by the way, Canada is no longer a colony Smile

Shewolf - come on up here,

Izzie, Straycat, CJ - I think you'd like it, if only for a day, and I'm not unusual, really - there are lots of cooks and camps and geos and techies up here, and actually people live here, too! Laughing

It was minus 15 deg C last night and this morning and my g'd stove in the kitchen wasn't emitting any heat so I had to cook with a toque and scarf plus my down jacket on.

mac11 - that was a marten (although I keep referring to is as a muskrat). They're part of the weasel family.

Okay, here's the wall hanging so far - starting with Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Oy, everything below 50 F is dangerous to us Californians.
How long are you going to be up there cooking for the guys, Mame?

Another 3/4 weeks, depending... it's okay, my stove is fixed, finished my grocery order, did some more on the wall hanging, dinner's in the oven, and I have time to play some crib with Mike. Life is great! Very Happy

So how many marriage offers have come your way so far?

I love the tapestry work, they have a folk feeling with a little savvy sophistication thrown in.

None, but the president made a move on me, neatly deflected, I must say. Smile The older guys are all married, happily, it seems, and the younger guys are ...well, younger. And the native guy is single and my age but his teeth are rotten and he tells really bad jokes and long, windy, pointless stories where your eyes glaze over, you can't remember the start of the story, and you suddenly remember it's urgent that you clip your toenails.

I suppose its getting light now. ANy evidence of moose ?
DO you have a core lab set up at the camp or are they being shipped out for analyses?

I agree with Joe, nothing beats reality checks in how we live lives.

No moose. Core samples go to Telkwa to be crushed, dried and powdered (to give the locals some work) and then they go to an assay lab in Vancouver. We have to get a 38 drill in because the other one can't get through the sand. They have to use bentonite to harden the sand and try it that way. The foreman threatened to quit over this - he was told there was only a little overburden but it turned out that's not the case. In one case, 126' of sand with no rock encountered.

It's bitter out again this morning, and just getting light (7:a.m.).

Sour Cream Biscuits - everybody's favourite:

Mix in a bowl:

2 c. flour
1 T. sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp. baking powder

Cut in 1/4 c. shortening

Mix and then add to the flour until just moistened:

2/3 c. sour cream
2/3 c. milk

~~~
Bake at 450 degrees on a greased baking sheet for 10 - 12 minutes. Makes about 8 good-sized biscuits. The sour cream makes them moist.
<taking notes>
I love the wall hanging, too. Did you think ahead and bring the felt or was that already there for some reason?
No, Soz, I brought everything - something to while away the long hours between cooking. I've made one at every camp I've been to. I don't think I have any of those pictures on my laptop. I'll have to check. I just try to put people's personalities into them and reflect what our camp was like.
