Glad its all going so well mame. Watching with interest. The cold and snow is just so far outside my experience.... we have to stop harvesting here when it rains cause the topsoil gets washed away. Working in the rain sucks anyway .
Everything shuts down for winter here.

Now I know your a big girl and can make your own decisions but hoping for a pass from someone on the crew is fraught. When it breaks up it messes the whole job up.

Up to you though.

I can't pass up a guy with missing teeth and bow legs, now, can I ??? C'mon, give a girl a break!!

ehBeth - I've heard about that Iceland jaunt - too expensive from Vancouver and too short a trip for the money. I hope you get to go, though. Is she planning on visiting anyone in particular? My ex has been there several times and if you need info about restaurants or whatever, let me know. He has a former Icelandic grad student living there.

I'm very impressed. And I have to say, that looks like fun (for a week or two). Your camp looks a lot like the place I spent 8 weeks doing archeology, except where I was it was warm and sunny....... Dayum!

Just through people who know people, you know how it is... it is fun, dag...

Very funny moment going on right now - I got four drillers, a geo and a camp manager debating about which is the best tea to drink Smile One prefers Chai, another green, Earl Grey and Breakfast Tea are contenders - lol It is just so incongruous to hear men in greasy clothes discussing teas, peppered with curses.

It would make a great Saturday Night Live skit though...

"This mutherfcuking Chai is the best mu-fkng chai on the moo-fuking planet"
"Yo, yo, no, bro. You take this here Earl Grey sh-t, that's the real sh-t."
"Got two words for you both. Lapsang Soojong. I tried smoking it once. 'Bout killed my fuking ass."

Like was that like snow on the top of the tree?

Shocked

What did the place look like before the rest of the snow melted?

I think up there I would prefer to live underground.

K - hat's off to you girlie - huge respect. It looks amazing up there - what a beautiful place to be.

Now, can you walk us through your day (if thats OK with everyone). You get up in the morning (after a very chilly visit to the loo - omg - so not me!) then.........

would you tell us what your day involves please? I'd love to know. How many folk are up there etc etc. What other wildlife are hanging around there (other than the drillers). It sounds as tho you get supplies in regularly - how far are you from "the rat race". Big interest going on here.

(sorry if I've missed it during the thread)

Bears at nite - clawing through tents ... mmmmmmmm .... I'd be the idiot with the camera snapping a photo saying - "ooooh, look who popped by for dinner last nite". Exclamation

Major respect girl - hope your day is going well. Good on ya Smile

Hello from the back of beyond. We've had no internet or phone for several days. The drilling isn't going too well but we don't care, we're having fun.

Here's Mike W., the Camp Manager, who trapped this baby who was invading tents and eating books and things. Sad, but that's life in the fast lane, as my MIL always said.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/WetCoast/Camp%20Shots/MikewithtrappedmartenSmall.jpg

Here's a morning's work - don't forget, I am up at 4:30, and this was done by 10:30, after two breakfast shifts.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/WetCoast/Camp%20Shots/MorningsworkSmall.jpg

Now I'm ready for a nap, but first, a little internet or ordering supplies or game-playing...

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/WetCoast/Camp%20Shots/MeatadistanceSmall.jpg

Mike is my cribbage buddy - he's a hoot.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/WetCoast/Camp%20Shots/MikeWarrenSmall.jpg

He and this other Mike tell stories about logging, drilling, crazy coots who live in town - they're hilarious.

4:30 a.m. - Get up, put the coffee on, have a shower, back in the cook shack

5:00 a.m. - Get the bacon and/or sausages cooking, make pancakes or French Toast, eggs if they want 'em, hash browns, whatever - sometimes Egg McMuffins, sometimes omelettes or tortilla roll ups - always yogurts, fruits, juices, nuts and berries are on the table.

7:00 a.m - Do that again for night shift coming in.

8:00 a.m. - Clean the kitchen, bake, get dinner thawing.

12:30 pm - Nap, work on wall hanging, read, internet (if available), play cards with Mike, check First Aid stuff (if necessary), clean my tent, sketch, paint, whatever.

4:00 - Back in the cook shack, get dinner ready

6:00 - serve dinner to night shift going out.

7:30 pm - serve dinner to day shift coming in. Clean kitchen, get morning coffee ready, go on internet, play cards, listen to tall tales, etc.

8:30 - 9:30 p.m. - bed!

Not too exciting, hmm?

There are seven guys at present, soon to be eight. They fired one driller because he as a no-good, rotten scoundrel who was as useless as t*ts on a bull, apparently, and the new guy is quite different. What a pleasant surprise - no cussing, no tales, no bravado... who IS this guy?? A saint!

Maybe more tomorrow - it depends on whether it snows again! 4" today, 5" yesterday... it's gorgeous. I'll take a picture of some animal tracks - Mike thinks it's a silver fox.
