I'm definitely interested. Except when Walter is coming. I'm not sharing my Freedom Fries with Old Europeans.
How about Frito Pies? (I still haven't ordered that...)

Frito Fries? Is that what the illegals eat? I hate illegals!
Frito Pies are what should be illegal.

Unfortunately I've got non-refundable air tickets. But I'm not keen at all on Freedom Fries.
Hope that works for you, Thomas.

Bouncing this up as an overview of the plan:

The dates in the title cover from Wednesday through Monday. I can easily see that some might be leaving on Tuesday as well.
Since this is a fair number of days and people will probably arrive at different times and may work out some plans for exploring other places in New Mexico besides the city of Albuquerque, we are thinking that there won't necessarily be one big meeting, unless that is what works out re timing. More that we will play it by ear as this thread develops and have several meetings at different restaurants, hotels, museums, or even a certain tramway. Perhaps a group trip to Santa Fe (about an hour's drive away) and/or Taos, or Madrid, or other interesting places.
Some of us locals and people who know the area will make suggestions, but that's only a start for possibilities.
As said in the earlier thread, people who will stay more than a day may want to rent a car, or join in on renting a car. Some may want to stay at the same hotel/motel/b&b.
Albuquerque has a good airport (the first place I liked here) and has an Amtrak station. I'm not sure about Greyhound, but I think so.
Back a little later with some sights to see and some potential lodging.
Here are a few more possiblilities for sightseeing, drinking, lodging:
Los Poblanos Farm --This is both a B&B, an organic farm which will deliver fresh veggies, a lavender farm and just beautiful place to visit.
http://www.lospoblanos.com/things_to_do/
Wineries--these are mostly Albuquerque, but there are several wineries in New Mexico. Gruet is one, making a lovely, affordable champagne of which I have had way too much tonight...

Sandia Peak Tram--I love the tram because of my fear of heights--it gives me a lovely, shivery, delightful scare followed by an aura of valiant courageousness upon arrival.

A couple more on the Acoma Pueblo--there are around 19 pueblos in New Mexico. Most cannot be visited unless it is a religious holiday or special festival...Acoma is the oldest continuously inhabited pueblo in the country.
Acoma Pueblo history--more detailed than the usual tourist version.

New Mexico Magazine article on Acoma Pueblo...

Madrid would be my additional suggestion.
(Taos would be a too long ride, I could imagine.)
Ah, but the drive to Taos is unbelievably beautiful. Depends on how much time individual travelers have to go off on side trips.
Madrid is a funky little place where lots of Santa Fe artists have gone to live and to open galleries because of the incredible expense of movie star inhabited Santa Fe.
One thing to remember if a trip into the northern mountains is on your to do list, is that there can still be snow. It's unlikely that any snow will be in the forecast, at least not usually, but there can still be quite a lot of snow on the ground depending on how warm spring has been.
Getting excited...
So how's the status report by now? (There were 14 maybes origianally ...)
Re: Albuquerque a2k roundup, May 14-19, 2008
Bumping this up, Walter. I have gotten a bit distracted the last week or so with piles and piles of paper and architecutural drawings spread out over three rooms. I will try to figure out where we are this weekend.

I haven't kept a count, Walter - as far as I know, people who are thinking about making it are still thinking about making it. They are still very welcomed.*
Among the maybes we have Ticomaya, Jim, Thomas, Eva, forgive me if I skipped a person. I do hope all of them can make it.
I have been laggard on posting restaurants in Old Town, plan to remedy this with restaurant notices and my daunting opinions.
* I am glad, more than glad, to meet with people I disagree with on, say, politics. At least for a bit. And a2k meetings have been, with growing numbers, often ok on all that in the past.
I prefer not to be trapped in a closed room with this or that person,
or that person who thinks the same of me. But in real life, we're just real people arguing best we can, and the surprise is, sometimes we can like each other. Not to be sugary.
I'll add that I hope Asherman and Foxfyre join in.
We were sort of born to not like each other, before I even moved here, and on meeting would probably go off gnawing on bones, but
I'd like to meet, no venom attached.
Later, sure.. smiles.
Never mind me, Asherman and Foxfyre would probably like to meet others.
Eh, me, never mind me. Can't we meet at a neutral place like whatsit, Flying Star on Rio Grande, perhaps in the patio, and just yammer back and forth?
