**** man, this is turning out to be an art thread, except for shewolf, of course.
you better be quiet before I show you my dreadlocks..
Dreadlocks don't scare me, baby... you show me yours, I'll show you mine.
Oh, I really just can't WAIT!!
Yah, she's in for a bollickin' if she thinks she can talk to me that way. Now, all I need is Rocky Rockhead. Where's that lovely man, anyway? I wanted so much to talk the Blues with him. Love his Music Thread.
Mame, I promise you that we will talk him into it next time. He will be sorely missed this time.
Oh! Oh! Fine by me if this turns into an art thread!
That's GREAT! Gives me yet
another reason to look forward to this!
I remember seeing a few of BBB's paintings a couple of years ago. I wanted to take a better look then, but Hubby and SonofEva were waiting on me. I plan to see them again this time. And Osso has paintings, too? WOO HOO!!!
You cannot imagine how hard I laughed to read that Thomas Kincaid went out of business in The Land of Enchantment.
Truly, people in New Mexico are surrounded by so many authentic, talented artists that it shouldn't have surprised me to learn they know the difference between real art and kitsch. Still, just hearing that the Kincaid gallery there went under made my day. One can only hope it will happen in more places...and soon!
I have a docent friend who hates Kincaid so much that he continually refers to him as "The Merchant of Light."
Eva, you are too much a lady. "A Merchant of...." Fill in whatever comes to mind but make sure it is not polite or appropriate or in any way could be mistaken for anything but a big, fat, insult.
God I love being old. I swear a blue streak sometimes, that would make my mother and aunts swoon--yep, they really swooned.
You mean I am supposed to wait until I am older to ******* cuss like this?
Oh holy ******* ****. What in the hell am I going to do now?
repent.. THATS IT
I will repent
I can't remember how to spell his name, the toad.
When I spelled it Kincade, there were something like 2 million hits so I felt reasonably assured. But my memory sort of twigs to Kincaid. Bunch of threads in the art forum have pretty well shellacked him. Oh, I mean varnished.
It remains a pleasure to see that store empty. It's not far from the good ice cream shoppe, and visible, if I'm not confused, from Rio Grande Blvd.
I'll back off on Bob Ross, in that now that some of you have posted more, his name does ring a bell. If he got people to draw and paint, v. good.
Y'know, speaking of depression, drawing is useful in such times... but most people probably think they don't know how. I remember my mother telling me many times that she couldn't draw a straight line. A teacher told her that, I guess, when she was young, which would have been around 1910.
I remember that I had a friend in what would now be middle school who could draw fabulous horses. I never had that facility. I started drawing trying to copy Broomhilde.
I took many drawing and painting classes. Almost embarrassing how many. Some of the people who were, ah, in the lower level of facility in the drawing classes, blossomed in painting classes.
A friend, whom I remarked about on another thread re his hair, great designer and artist and teacher, said he didn't pay attention to facility, at least primarily. (We used to be on juries together re students). Facility can mask shallow thought.
I wish art play, re draftsmanship/play or concept and the realms that involve them, were not considered some kind of elitist sport.
you have an excellent point about how 'healing' art can be
I have tried the pencil pen medium
I have tried the paint canvas medium
my medium is photography. School is currently helping me hone my miniature talent.
I feel ... oddly happy.. and peace.. and focused, even grounded, when I am behind my camera looking for things to photograph.
I love children. Love..love..love them
Hate adults
Love cats
Hate dogs
Love old cars
Hate old trucks
Love dancers
Hate singers..
I have my particulars that I love to photograph obviously.. but I can soothe almost any wound, any anger and any discomfort with a click of the shutter..
equivalent to an artist painting?
i think so
I agree with you, wolf.
An edit, in that, in context, the friend's comment was related to facility of presenting a design or design series, and he was very right and I naturally agreed. But I think that could be extended. Facility and worked out expressed emotions or thoughts don't always coincide, even by great artists.
I've a cat book for you, gurl.

Yeah, but I forgot to say...my docent friend (an older gentleman) actually calls Kincaid this DURING TOURS. He's been called on the carpet for it repeatedly (not pc, you know), but he refuses to stop. We're all rooting for him.
Yeah, sometimes I am too much a lady. Probably the company I keep. (doing p.r. for clients, teaching young people, living with a 14 yr. old.)
I will make a concerted effort to cut loose this weekend. Okay?

Okay, I googled it. It's Kincade, not Kincaid.
Not that anybody around here gives a ****.*
(See, Diane? I'm practicing.)
Go Eva!! We'll form a critic's panel with ratings from one to ten, one being the lowest and ten being the highest.
You, of course, should be going for the lowest. A score of one is the equivalent of a blue streak. We'll paint the town blue.
Go for it girl, you can do it.
hehe
lookie what I made
now you all know what I look like
I feel like a party crasher, but...
It's hard for me to tell what's serious and what's kidding here, but...
That's a major babe in that photo. Also as a serious photographer (B&W), I wish I had taken that portrait. Awesome!
At some point ask me to show you my online portfolio.
i took that photo
ran it through some photo shop stuff and...voila. Self portrait
YVW! No need for embarrassment. As that 60s' singers said, "when you're hot, you're Hot!
FWIW, as a photographer and inveterate photo-diddler I'm well versed with Adobe PS and Corel for the last 6-8 years. Canvas effect looks pretty realistic.
