You don't know me personally and likely never will unless you decide to attend one of the A2K functions. My personae here is not real life. I bet if you did attended one of the get togethers that you would not be the clueless jerk you appear to be on the forum.

I'll take that bet....

If I interpret your sentence correctly, and I am hesitant to do so because that might be the first compliment of any kind directed at me, instead of insults based on your own I would assume prejudices, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and agree with you. I don't believe I am a clueless jerk at all. I am a law abiding, hard working citizen of this country that gets along with every neighbor I've ever had, virtually every boss I've ever had, and pretty much anyone else. I am educated, and I believe I have common sense and I try to apply it to politics because politics is interesting.

I do happen to have strong conservative beliefs, and I try to state them openly and matter of factly, which does not qualify me to be the target of your less than decent comments. As a result, I have given you plenty of sarcasm in return. If it is indecent, my apologies, but I guess I was wrong when people of different opinions could civilly debate issues based on the evidence. If you do not agree with me, I would appreciate it if you would state the well reasoned response instead of simply calling someone an idiot. When we do that, it really says more about the person doing it than the recipients.

I believe this forum is a microcosm of politics on the national scene now. You have flaming liberals hurling insults at conservatives, calling them fascists, traitors, liars, you name it, and this is done on a regular basis, and has even been engaged in by congressmen and others. Conservatives have lashed back with the likes of Rush Limbaugh and other people pounding away daily at liberals because they believe libs are messing with too much of the basic foundation and fabric of the country, and I happen to agree with them to a great extent. We are truly in a cultural war right now and it isn't pretty. I hope it improves in the future.

It will improve - but not to your delight, I guarantee.

The fact is that the US has been steadily liberalizing since its' inception; and there have always been those like yourself who are afraid of the changes. But, we keep ticking along nonetheless and will likely continue to do so in the future, in our even more liberal society.

I would remind you that Washington himself considered Liberalism to be one of the highest moral virtues. It would seem that there's more then a little disagreement about what the 'basic foundation' of our country is. In fact, that's a great point - our country was founded upon the guarantee of certain rights and the mistrust of government. It can easily be argued that the modern Conservative reactionary movement is seeking to move us away from these basic tenets.

Cyclops, I fully realize cultural trends may not be to my liking. A few things might be better, but most are worse, in my opinion. Free peoples tend to become complacent and eventually end up in servitude before they wake up again and realize what happened. Also, we have increased crime, distrust, corruption, sexual abuse, etc., and more broken families. Another symbol of what is going on, on Fox News online, the question was posed, how long until marriage to a robot will be legalized? Need anything more be said about that, cyclops?

In regard to Washington, I think the liberalism ascribed there was quite a bit different than the definition of liberalism today.

In regard to reactionary conservatives, I think conservatives see the country drifting dangerously away from our original beliefs, and yes, the modern conservative movement is in reaction to that in an effort to turn the tide. People like Limbaugh have become popular because they represent a traditional view to what the public perceives now as a dangerously slanted and liberal press, which did not exist a few decades ago, hence the Limbaughs were not needed. lAlso, you have religious groups becoming political, when in the old days, more people adhered to traditional religious views, hence there was no need for religious groups to be political. Personally, I am not in favor of religious groups being political, as I prefer to fight politics in the realm of politics, and to an extent the religious groups being involved might be counterproductive to the cause.

Most of the time, you and I can discuss things reasonably, although we both resort to pretty serious sarcasm, but I think we both understand it for what it is? I can stand liberals as long as they respect my beliefs as well.

You're darn tootin', Cy! They embrace government that lies, tortures, commits crimes both high and low, misdemeanors and felonies, spies on citizens, you name anything that is the antithesis to sound, responsible government and they're guilty of it.

JTT, if we returned to how the country was governed in the late 1700s, you guys would go berserk. You would not even recognize the country. If you had the same mindset as now and by virtue of a time machine had been transplanted into that day and time, you would be so out of touch with what was going on, you would be totally lost.

But you see, okie, you give us precious little reason to accept anything you write in this quote. It's not at all clear that you have any love for 'book learnin' even as regards the history of the United States. It wouldn't surprise me if your bookshelf has not a single volume on American History written by a historian. You give us little or no reason to believe that you actually know anything at all about the late 1700s in America.

Well, go to the 1800s for a good example. Abe Lincoln kept a Bible on his desk and freely read it and used it to make decisions. Hey, a kid can't even mention the word "God" anymore in school and he might be called down and given a talking to by the teachers. There is no denying this is a totally different world and a different culture than prevailed decades ago or early in this nation's history.

Culturally, liberalism has changed many things. And in terms of government policy, the government is now involved in so many social programs and social engineering that were unheard of long ago, blatham. You accuse me of being ignorant of history, but I don't know how you read the history books, through a prism? This is not rocket science to see this. Heck, bring it up to date a bit and go talk to a few 80 or 90 year olds and they can tell you how much things have changed in their lifetime. Fact is, we are slipping and sliding toward more and more of a nanny state, which was definitely not the case in history.

Case in point, would Graeme Frost be used to demand more money 200 years ago, when the family owns 3 vehicles and a few hundred thousand dollars worth of real estate, including commercial real estate? Terrible move by the Democrats, blatham. Besides, that family is covered already without even increasing it more.

I rain on your parade of liberal thought here and you don't know how to deal with it.

Dys, you seem to have two interests here than I have noticed. One is finance, watching the stock market apparently for your investments. When you aren't doing that, your other pastime is to pick on me here. I hope it elevates your own self image and makes you feel better, dys.

I hope the likes of dyslexia makes you proud of your side, cyclops. I know you guys like monopolies on debate forums. After all, it is difficult to actually realize not everyone agrees with the loony left.

Which side would that be? The side of "people who disagree with me?"

If thats true, and I don't actually care, but it demonstrates another facet of libs as yourself, you are groupees and don't have an individual thought on your own. You see, conservatives do think for themselves and form their own opinion. Try it sometime.
